Everyone is different, so you need to filter all this great advice thru your specific needs. I have a utility trailer I towed with my '87 Mustang GT, but now I will sell it because the Maverick can carry all I need. Those who recommend AWD probably have a need for it, but I don't, so I would not bother. It probably costs you a smidge on MPG too. I agree that the $100 trailer hitch & 4 pin harness is a no brainer, and that you should not pay more than MSRP or accept any dealer upcharges like coatings, etched glass, etc. If you don't want the dealer's logo on the back, clarify that before they start PDI.
I must differ with another guy who said that production priority code 3 is available. My understanding is that dealers can only assign priorities from 10 to 19 for special order vehicles. Lower numbers are reserved for corporate, and higher ones are used for dealer inventory. My dealer set my priority to 10 back at the end of 2022 and my truck was built in March. My trailer hitch was a constraint item at the time.

Yeah especially because Lariat locks you into AWD which you don’t have on your XLT.

If you did it would close that gap by $2200
Yes. I really don't need AWD. My salesman was a bit surprised when I didn't order AWD, but in the last 2 winters with my truck, I didn't need it.

Ask the dealer to include a battery charger and a jump pack
Just had my 2024 parked in my garage for a month while I was traveling. I received an email saying my Maverick communications were turned off which got me worried. Got home and it started right up. I think the software protects your battery.

Good post for the most part. The old dealer priority codes were 10 - 19 but they were updated to the new 3 - 19. These dealer priority codes only apply to the order placed within That Dealership, so the lower the number you have will place you a higher priority than the same model vehicle at that dealership. These codes actually mean nothing to ford, they have their own criteria for what gets built and when.

Get a Mustang Club of America membership for $35 and it’ll bring that price under $40k with X Plan.

My AWD Hybrid Lariat with 4K tow and moonroof is $39,300 with X plan.
Thank you! I just signed up and will be eligible by the time my Maverick gets here!

1. Get the all wheel drive with the 4k tow pack. I would have purchased those option if they offed it back in 2023. Why Ford just didn't offer that right from the start on their hybrid model was always a head scratch-er. the very hybrid model it was based on ( Escape ) a AWD hybrid. it is always better to have more towing capability then not.
2. XLT ( with the AWD 4k tow pack) will be the trim level to get without hitting to much into the Ford ranger price territory
3. you may want to wait till job to which I believe begins in late November early December to be able to get Pro Trailer assist.
I'm not sure what the fascination with AWD is on this board? Wife's SUV has AWD and have used it twice in 10 years. Live in Massachusetts, maybe in Colorado or Canadian border.

I've had two XL's, currently have a Lariat, and just ordered an XL today. While the Lariat is nice I can't justify the additional $$$.

The 4K tow package didn't make any difference to me as I have several trucks to pull, but the $100 trailer hitch and 4 pin harness was a no brainer.

Refuse to pay more than retail. Don't buy ANY of the dealers upcharges (paint/interior coatings, etched glass, tracking BS, etc.)

Insist on a priority code 03 or take your business elsewhere. They may tell you they can't change it, but they absolutely can. Code 03 is the best chance you have of getting your truck in a reasonable amount of time.

Agree 100%

The question is why wouldn't you get it and the tow package. AWD is nice to have just to be on the safe side. It also helps in the rain. You only lose 2 mpg (40 vs 42) over the fwd hybrid.

I wouldn't pay extra for AWD, tow package depends on usage but probably yes.

I never understood the rational of paying for the Lariat package on Ford's cheapest vehicle. You still get the same drive train just with bells and whistles. Lipstick on a pig.
Hummm... As my only vehicle, in a one adult household, I'll take the lipstick, eye liner, blush & perfume please! All those 'lariat' things just make every drive just a little nicer.

To the OP, like many have said, 4K tow package. I didn't get it, and regret that miss.
