It runs based upon relative humidity and dew point temperature. To reduce chance of condensate fogging windshield as well as to prevent dew from forming on electrical things under dash. Most of time it's using air flow at foot level and under dash. When close enough to dew point it will turn on AC condenser and use the windshield and side window vents to lower humidity. If cab temp is at or below dew point all vents and air speed will be used along with AC condenser!

Is this a typical operating mode for new vehicles? I'm accustomed to AC on or off, not this says it off but is still running!
You can select on, off, automatic. When off is selected it will do very little and not get cabin to set temp. Personally I would like to set heat to something like on at 60 or below and cool on to maybe 76 or higher so automatic would not run between those settings. That way humidity control could operate more freely than it does in the off setting.
I'm used to personal control with a lot of things "on/off" like the lights, the engine, the parking brake, etc.
Probably my hvb soc dropped to its restart ice point but mine seems to restart after about 45 seconds every time I have measured on my hybrid. So I wonder why restart needs to happen in no more than that time???
I'm on my phone, so don't have the link to the study handy. But they found that the break even point was about 10 seconds of idle time equated to the gas needed to start the engine. So any time you are stopped for 10 seconds or more it makes sense for the engine to shut off to save gas.
Not an issue with the Hybrid. The gasoline engine will shut off when coasting to a red light and often stay off, even when you start back up, unless you stomp the go pedal.
Since I don't race up to stop lights usually it's less than that. Balanced by the cost of a starter, betcha it's a lot these days.
