I have tried mileage runs with and without climate control on and unable to notice any difference on my lariat ecoboost. Surely there has to be some difference but it must be small. In our 59 Galaxie it would cost you about 3 mpg to run the factory a/c but I want to be comfortable.
Same here lariat Fx4 ecoboost I leave it on auto and have seen no difference still getting 27-30 mpg depending on if I romp on it or not of course 😉 I do notice one thing though it is extremely easy to speed in this thing and you don't even realize it 🤣

I believe the mileage difference is more noticeable in the Hybrid, as the AC compressor is electric, rather than being run off of the crank pulley.
Down in south Florida, I couldn’t care less right now, though. 3/5/10 mpg is worth it to not be dripping sweat when I get to my destination lol.
Same for AZ, Looks like about a 5 mpg drop since the 110's became normal

We had a white one with the 292 Y block v8 and power steering. First air conditioned car for my family. Next was a 65 LTD 4 door hard top loaded with a 390 FE engine.
Hmmm... My dad had the 59, 65 Galaxie, 69 LTD 351W, 73 LTD 351W with Air. I did my drivers test on the 69 .

Well, I'm an EB weighing in here, but noticeably different for me too. This spring I got the highest MPG I've ever had because there was almost a full month where I didn't need to use HVAC at all. According to the calculations I did and fuelly did in that time, it was almost 2 MPG better with no other changes in routes or driving habits. It's my highest MPG to date so far after one year of ownership. As for a difference in the auto setting? I never use it. I set the temp during summer and set the vents where I want/need them and it pretty much stays there. I have it set to 74 with floor and front vents - which in the Maverick is closer to 65 lol. Winter I do about the same temp but with floor and window vents plus I use the heated seats/steering wheel. So really I don't change much. I don't like the auto setting ramping up and down and I think it's only out of the front vents too.

All this writing about A/C has me wondering if anyone has noticed that the hybrid A/C that runs off the electric pump takes a different type of cooling Freon? I was looking at a standard 134a hose and can refill and I happened to have the Oreily's site set for my Maverick and noticed that some of the cans were not compatible with the truck. Something to do with the amount of oil or the extra ingredients they put in the mix to make it cool more.

I just found it very weird that the electric pump needs a special sauce to make it happy.

I got my truck near the end of March so I was able to use the heated seat and steering wheel most of the time in the coldish weather (wet coast Canada) and now I tend to cruise with all the windows open unless my wife is in the truck all to squeeze the extra KM out of the tank. I am trying to convince myself to just go with the flow and use the A/C like I did in my gas guzzler because no matter what I do the mileage in the Maverick with be at least 263% better than my Vue.
