Farewell to the Maverick

My journey with the Maverick Lariat has been great. I have had no complaints and the hybrid has averaged 51 mpg over the last 13k miles.

The AWD Hybrid and 4k are both great options that I wish had been available starting in 2022. When compared to the 2023 price, I feel that Ford has really missed the value mark with the 2025 Maverick. I ordered the Maverick in 2022 because I wanted a small, inexpensive truck with more than the basic features offered on most sedans and small SUVs at the time. At $32k the Lariat Luxury Maverick's value was impossible to beat. Today, after years of delays and price increases, the Maverick is still a good option for many families but at $$39k+ for a Lariat, the value is harder to justify.

I found a new 2024 max tow package Lightning Flash with $29,500 in savings before trading my 2023 Maverick. The Lightning ended up being $1800 more than a hybrid AWD Maverick Lariat with 4k tow. For me, this offered a substantially better value and I did not have to wait potentially a year or more.

I only drive about 7000 miles per year and my employer offers free EV chargers.

X-plan gave a factory discount of $14,500. The additional savings are from the federal tax credit and state EV programs.

My last one was a 2016 XLT sport 4x4... Loved that truck, it had 176k miles when I sold it.

The EV market isn’t what they thought it was going to be. Ford is basically cutting their losses.

The Ford Lightning is perfect for zipping around town—just don’t expect it to tow anything farther than 100 miles unless you’ve got a charging station stashed in your trailer.

You mentioned you are aware of the ~100 mile towing range, but in practical terms it is a 50 mile usable range. If you have 100 miles of range in total you can only go 50 miles out in order to have the 50 miles of range to return. You also need to consider what type of elevation changes you will be making while towing. While there might be ~100 miles of tow range on relatively flat trips, we have hills here that would cut that down by half.

Yep-Looks like Ford is getting greedy by steadily raising prices for the Maverick and is going to to kill off demand for their little golden goose -sad!

The target market for the truck completely shifted. They launched targeting the young urbanite that was price conscious. Instead, it turns out everyone and their actual grandmothers want it. Which are a demographic with higher disposable income and can simply afford to spend more. Ford is responding to market demand and the fact the Maverick has zero competition.

Yes! The Lighting and Mach E are offering absolutely massive discounts, especially on a lease. A Mach E can be leased for under $300 a month right now.

While BEV are still increasing in sales, it has slowed down. Hybrids have proven to be a better option for the vast majority of buyers until charging technology and infrastructure improve. This means the major manufacturers are pivoting back to hybrids and trying to cut loses on BEVs.

I don’t want to get political but it’s a shame what the automakers are going through now because of what the government was pushing them to do.

Holy crap dude! How did you manage to cop a Flash for that good of a deal?! I am jealous! I would be a Lightning owner if I had had the cash on hand to buy one (I don't take out vehicle loans). Congrats!

This thread got me thinking about a Lightening instead of the Maverick Lariat I have ordered. I'm coming from a Chevy Silverado, so this much of a downsize to the Maverick was giving me concern. Probably won't be within my budget, but I'm checking with my dealer to find out what the bottom line pricing would be just the same.

After all programs it was $43200 before trade. The 2025 Maverick order I cancelled was going to cost $41400. While I hadn't planned to finance the difference, the Lightning also offered 0% for 60 months.

Are you including the $7500 tax credit dealers like to add in as though it's coming off your payments?
