Is there anything wrong with my new process for exiting the vehicle. I pull into a parking spot and while still in D and seatbelted with foot on brake I just open the door and then push button the ignition off. Two things seem to automatically happen with that. When I open the door with seatbelt on the (p)arking brake gets automatically applied and when I turn off the ignition the truck puts itself into Park.
Any reason this can not be the normal way to exit the vehicle long term? Manual is not that clear.

Why are you opening the door before you take off the seatbelt and turn off the engine? Yes, it’s normal for to go into park and at least on hills to apply the parking brake.

Maybe so he doesn't have to hum and rub his belly?

Only thing I'll say is you would be developing a habit that might not work in other vehicles you may drive from time to time, i.e. spouses, other family member/friend, rental etc

Put it in P (or hit the power button to turn it off and automatically go to P) before opening the door.

That’s the only way I can get the ebrake to auto engage on flat land.

Perfectly normal for safe operation. Automatic park is a good safety feature. Parking brake is applied if on an incline.

And apparently also if you are stopped, buckled in on flat land and then open the door.

But I want the parking brake to auto engage. Won’t do it with those steps.

This is the issue. Put it in P.
Goal is to get parking brake to auto engage. That won’t happen if I put in park. My process seems to work. Just want to make sure the ford engineers that read this have no issue with it.

While that issue in other vehicles provides entertaining videos - I'm sure there are some cases not recorded when someone is injured or killed.

Simple as talking on phone while brain does auto-mode for exit sequence, except in a different car.

Ya - bad habit.

You think Ford engineers monitor this forum?

So you’re saying it will only be a user error. No potential long term mechanical issues with these steps.
