When I hauled a dozen pieces of 2"×6"×12' lumber and a few pieces of 4×8×3/4 plywood for repairing my daughters deck I put the tailgate in the mid position and attached my ratchet straps to the bed tie downs then loaded the plywood first and placed the lumber, and a new storm door, on top of the "shelf" created by the plywood.

I didn't take photos of my antics, but maybe someone who saw me going down the road did

Putting the tailgate in the mid position and making use of the front and rear tie down points while also using the cement blocks as counter weight might be easier and safer than doing it with the tailgate flat.

Excellent.
When I did the same, I put a strap between the front 2 tie downs to keep the front down.
Also brought an 8 foot 2x and tied everything together

Yes. Extenders are GREAT for carrying kayaks. I added a couple pool noodles and turned the extenders into regular CUSHIONS.
Agreed, extenders are great asset, but if you don't have a hitch they don't help out at all.
👍$100 for the factory installed hitch and wiring. Is a great deal when ordering. 👍

Interesting load setup. With long planks I like to go vertical it eliminates sag and up and down sway. Side to side sway can be triangulated a bit easier if desired. My setup would have had the blocks strapped together sandwiching the planks vertical then a strap out and back aroun the end of the board.

But any load that makes it home is a good one.

Right, Glen. I was agreeing with Old Ford Guy, hoping to influence a future buyer who might be on the fence about the hitch. Peace.

Clever! Just hope someone in a jacked up truck doesn't rear-end you, sending the rod through your windshield.
