really?? I know consider the source I LIKE the shifter I can grab my mate and get fresh with out that stick in the way
Alas, it's been a long, long time ago when they had full -sized vehicles and bench seats.

But really this one part really sucks??
How about the crummy seats and the lack luster sound (Im parroting numerous posters here)
The Maverick is fine for me Its a vehicle that fits where I am

I like that it goes into park when I turn the engine off if I don't bother to twist the knob.
I dislike that I can't see the little red light on the shifter if sunlight is hitting the knob.
That's my view.

Maybe you could train yourself to look at the gear indicator in the middle of the gauge cluster instead of looking down at the knob.

Ho hum.... I suppose the old dog will have to do just that. BUT that brings us to another interesting feature. The 'feel' of the knob dial. If you want "D" then give it a full twist to the right. Don't worry if you twist it too far, just as long as you twist it far enough, you have Drive. Twisting it to Reverse is the problem because it has to notch two times, not one or three. (I know. Look at the dashboard indicator) .... Hmmm... I may have to lower my steering wheel. A mod of sorts. ;-)
Good thing that they don't offer this 8 speed in a standard tranny. I'd be spending weeks trying to figure out the shift pattern.

Mike, I'm ok with the seats. We've all got our own preferences.

I've even got that sound system up to pretty good level by bumping up the sound towards the front a couple of notches then finding the best right left balance.

After I change the front speakers, I should be moving the sound into the pretty darn good range for non-audiophiles!

No clue why people don't like. Been using "the knob" in my Escape for 4 years and have no issues with it. Hell of a lot better than on the column. My only bitch is that the drive mode always defaults back to normal when you shut off the car (least on the Escape).. Why can't they just hold the drive mode it was in when you shut the car off (I always use ECO). Grrrrr. FYI... My Maverick finally has a build date.... Week of Sept 2nd... Over a year from the order date of Aug 22, 2023

I am OK with the seats. Have I had better seats? Of course. Have I had worse seats? You bet. I am not the kind of person who needs 500 watt quadraphonic power amplifiers and kick ass bass and speakers. But I do like a good sound system. I cannot find much to complain about with the standard Bang & Olefsen that came with the Lariat.

Well, look at the instrument panel then. It shows the state that the transmission is in.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make the effort to train myself.

I have a 2019 Lincoln MKZ that has push buttons on the dash. Took some getting use too, but now I like it for the fact it gave more storage space for the center console. The rotary dial took an equal amount to get comfortable with, but now I like it just fine. With the electronic transmissions the old style shifters are not needed. Change is good. I wouldn't want to go back to the old style shifters.

It is a TRUCK.
It is a VEHICLE.
It is TRANSPORTATION.
It is NOT a Symphony hall.
It is NOT a Juke Box.
It is NOT a Recording Studio.

My first 5 or 6 cars had AM only. Some were tube type, took forever to warm up at 20 below.

I'm on a RAV4 forum, and they parrot the sound complaints, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.
They sound like a 12 year old who can't get on the internet because they are at a national park. (Damn mountains and scenery anyway.)

Yes talk about click bait. I have never had a problem with the shifter. Infact it would not make my top 20 list of things I would change about the pickup.
