While I'd much prefer a shift lever like my F-150, with up/down shift capability, I have this in my Escape. I've not had much trouble operating it.

It's simple, if you own a Maverick you get used to it. I've been driving for 50 years and the shifter in my Bronco is more familiar but the dial really is a no big deal and a non-issue. I remember fearing driving a car back in the day with a 3 on the tree but it wasn't bad, again you get use to it.
The dial also saves some space.

Feigned outrage and drama really gets the clicks...

If he'd lived with a Maverick for more than a week he might've had a few recalls or had the radio seize up, and then he could really pretend something "sucks." 🤷‍♂️

I admit to not reading the article simply because I knew it was a negative on the rotary shift. Not that I'm a fan of it, but what wrist defect do you have to have to say going from a lever to a dial is a flaw? I mean I honestly have a metal plate in my right wrist (and for those wondering, I have no problem with airport security) and can operate it just fine. I mean it makes more sense to complain about the hood release being completely inside the cab than the shifter now being a dial.

I get that Jolpnik isn't what it used to be and there are bigger things we could be worried about in our Mav's, but I kind of agree with the guy. I like the "L" button in the middle of the dial, but maybe you should have to have your foot on the brake to go into Park Mode. Somebody smart at Ford should be able to tweak the design.

Hopefully when you use the dial you are stopped. Look at what you are doing when deciding which position you want then keep your hands on the wheel. DUH!

So, because the author is used to the Kia rotary shift, the Maverick's is "awful"? Seriously?

Years ago, I had a Mazda 626 and a Porsche 914 - both manual shift. The 914 reverse was the same location as first on the 626. I didn't think that either shift pattern "sucked"; just made a mental note each time as to which car I was driving. It really isn't that difficult

I’ve been wondering what would happen… Thanks for testing.
