With all these dealer markups, what price would buying a maverick still be worth it for everyone?

I’ve seen some other threads where dealers are imposing a $3k, $5k, and some even more mark up on the ford sticker msrp. No one wants to over pay buy somewhat understandable for a markup, at what number would it be too much?
for me I’m thinking I’d be okay with a $3k over..

I will not be ok with anything over. Ford wanted me to order this truck. This is the sales model Ford wants to adopt moving forward. I had no choice but to go through a dealer. If I am making a direct order, the paper I sign acknowledging my order should be the price I pay, which in this case was MSRP. Given everything going on today with the market and supply issues, I am ok with paying MSRP.

If a dealer wants to mark up their own stock, I'm sure they'll find a sucker to pay. But marking up a retail order is wrong.

Only a fool would pay over sticker. There are plenty of dealers out there that are selling for msrp. And if you can't find one order it and wait and be a little patient but don't be a fool.

I've bought over a dozen new cars, all of them under MSRP. The Maverick is the first that I'm paying MSRP. I will not pay over MSRP. Don't need/want any vehicle that badly.

Well if the dealer is going to pay me 3K over retail on my used vehicle then 3K over MSRP is up to the buyer

MSRP. Anything over is just money lost down the road. This crazy market will calm down in a year or so, and then all the people who paid over MSRP will just face extra depreciation. The Maverick is a great value at MSRP. Over MSRP and you might be better off stepping up to a midsize.

I agree with others. I ordered a truck with agreement for MSRP. First time I’ll pay MSRP but that’s the reality in today’s market. I walk away if they try to add on and report them to Ford and put them on blast on all local websites. Won’t do any good but will make me feel better.

You do realize that any amount over MSRP adds ZERO value to the worth of your vehicle? Resale value will not reflect it. Your insurance will not cover it. Absolute zero. You'd be better off throwing $3k in your fireplace ,at least you'd get a few minutes of warmth off it.

This is why I like one dealership and one salesperson for the long haul.

I have walked out of some horrible dealerships over the years and walked out of some dealerships that went from great to horrible over an owner or management change.

I bought a 2010 Wrangler from a local dealership, paid MSRP, $249 doc fee and no other add ons. Friendly people, nice experience.

Went back about 6 months later just browsing. Every new vehicle had a dealer invoice on the window next to the factory invoice. $2500 additional dealer profit, $999 paint protection, $999 fabric protection, $299 vin etch in windows. $5000 over MSRP for dealer BS. A salesman never showed up, I walked into the showroom and the place was a ghost town. I'm guessing everyone quit.

That is why I held of on building a garage or really doing anything. Why would I pay way more for something that will go back to normal. The idiots paying for that stuff are putting them self at risk. They are also the people that are making a bad situation worse. Some people just have way to much money that they have to spend it more so when it comes tax time. People selling the cars for a profit or slight lose only work of you have another vehicle to drive till prices die down. I know someone who a had a 3 years old truck with 10k miles on it after trade he only paid $6k for everything. Dealer no doubt listed the price of a new or more then new truck.
If I had to pay that I would just order one.

Bigger trucks like 350 some dealers are offering like $7k off.

I feel the same way! In fact, I'm feeling some kind of way about paying MSRP! But I want this truck, so I agreed. If they Mark it up $1.00 I will walk and never buy from them again. MSRP is what was agreed upon and signed.

Ordinarily I'll buy a nice used vehicle and pay cash. That's how my F150 was. One owner, impeccable maintenance records from dealer, resold by original dealer. But in todays market I sold it for a grand more than I bought it and bought a new Mav at msrp. This market wont last forever but if one does a little research it's a good time to get in a new car.

I'm willing to walk and go a completely different direction...and not towards another Ford! 20+ years with Ford would go up in smoke!
