Did they tell you as well that they were going to "red tape" the failed trans

they told me that with mine and that it meant no local tech was even going to look at it to tell me what failed.... Crate it and ship it to detroit thats all i got out of my original

I had iot replaced @ 926 miles i have ~9000mile now
running great

Cannot confirm 'red tape' action, but reading the repair ticket might lead to that conclusion. When I asked service rep what they found, he stated they did not open the transmission, just replaced it. The info below is from the repair ticket for the work.

Ă—1*12*QULV OIL
- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 20103 VERIFIED CONCERN.

ON DEMAN ON DEMAND FAULT CODES WERE P0715 AND P073D.

WAS NECESSARY PUSH VEHICLE INTO STALL, WOULD NOT PULL.

AIR TESTED TRANS, VERIFIED INTERNAL FAILURE.

I RAN SMART COST CAP, RESULT WAS TO REPLACE DUE TO BACK ORDER FOR NEEDED PARTS.

THIS IS AN ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE.
REMOVED TRANS INSTALLED NEW TRANSMISSION.
REPLACED ALL ONE TIME USE FASTENERS AS REQUIRED.
TOPPED OFF FLUID TO FULL HOT. UPDATED STRATEGY AND ID.
ROAD TESTED TO VERIFY TRANS OPERATION.

OK ADVISE CUSTOMER TRANS IS IN ADAPTIVE LEARN, THIS WILL TAKE SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES TO COMPLETE

I just pulled out of my driveway this morning and i just knew something was wrong

Shifting into drive i gave gas and no moving
I read the other post and will be taking truck on Tuesday morn

Do you still have your truck? Any issues with the new transmission? My 24 lariat is having the same issue. Went out when I drove it from Texas to Florida to visit my Dad, it’s still there waiting on a new transmission install. I’m really worried about how well it’s going to hold up. I only had 5700 miles on it when it died.

Yes, still own truck, have 42K+ miles now. Trans seems to be OK. Do notice a lot of wireless communication activity occurring, when the truck is in my garage, and able to connect to the internet. May be possible Ford is actively monitoring this repair for diagnostic purposes.

Also stay on top of recommended maintenance, and change fluids more frequently than the schedule calls for. Do have the Ford extended warranty, so should be covered if problems occur.

Been trying the different transmission modes, believe turning off traction control improves my gas milage, and the traction mode used will also alter range/engine performance characteristics. Using 'Sand' or 'Slippery" seem to give better fuel economy, but you need to adapt your driving style to their performance traits.

Would be willing to give up some fuel economy to get less 'e-interference' with my driving, much prefer to make my own decisions about speed/gearing selection/ timing. Too much automation, without having enough qualified service personnel, and parts, to cope with the attendant problems is a guaranteed way to have unhappy customers.

Wish we could get government less involved in regulating what/ how we drive, and designing/making our vehicles. Hell, understand some of the bureaucrats involved don't even own a car or know how to drive.

I would prefer the paddle shifters that the Ford Escapes had but with little more of a positive control by the driver for economy. I've found that with my style the eco or regular mode is the best for economy...this is driving on a 55 max flat two lane state highway with few stop signs. My average is at 34.5 with my 2.0 EB AWD & 4K towing . My biggest concern is that the infotainment system is wonky and I think that it has to do with the connection with my cheapy phone because if I reboot the phone then all seems well.

Also not to get too political but I am envisioning that Gvt. control will increase as our vehicle driver control decreases. It seems standard that hazard breaking is becoming the norm on all vehicles and lane assist is very common. You're probably right about some of those bureaucrats. In D.C. you can get around pretty well with the Metro system or if you're a fat cat, a limo.

Reliability? that's not what Ford is known for. Irregardless, the reason that most of us new comers buying the truck for is that it's supposed to be cheap or 'affordable'. But most dealers have fucked that up so bad that it's a one and done experience for people like myself. I'm sure I'm the one in minority here but heck if you want a convert from other brands it's time to make a good impression and unfortunately, Ford has sucked that up bigly.
I wish Honda would make a more maverick looking mini truck with the hybrid power train from the new Accord. Sold! A buddy of mine who owns a GMC 1 ton for reference rented one on vacation and talked about how much he loved it. I rode in one on an Uber ride 2 days ago and the interior quality, the ride etc seemed like a luxury car. I know the Maverick is relatively affordable but they're about the same price it's just the Accord doesn't have a bed

Not trying to be political, just factual. It's not only the bureaucrats, it's also the techno wonks designing the e-systems. Many are mere e-Fools who don't have and interest in the physical and mental act of driving and/or riding a motorcycle.

While old in years, am not a tech hater, was a field engineer for Burroughs Corp. in the 1970s, and sold/used Apple Macintosh products in the 1980s till now. But, also have ridden motorcycles, driven 4 wheel vehicles since 1959, and still active doing both.

Most of the folks designing new vehicle systems don't have the depth of experience to understand the context of real world vehicular interaction. Most of their limited experience has been with e-simulations from a non-interactive sitting position at an office desk, or on a couch playing video games. Have done both, you can learn from each, but in the real world you learn the true cost of your errors, there is no quick do over button for a retry.

I don't really get the lack of manual shifting control on these newer cars (well, some of them). My escape is the same way - dial shifter with no means to manually upshift or downshift. Automatic transmission on steroids. At least I can upshift and downshift my F-150 manually.

And it's not like the technology to allow this is costly. Yeah, they like to charge a lot for it on some vehicles, but in reality, 99% of it is already there.

Anyway, griping aside (one of my superpowers), glad that the OP has his vehicle back.

Well, That is true. The car that I learned on back in the dark ages was a 69 LTD 351W. It had the common PRND21 automatic design. I suppose with these little engines and an 8 speed that 2nd gear is really more like 3rd or more likely 4th gear in the olden times. It could be done and there is a thread on here about adding paddle shifters. My bet is that Ford doesn't want to be responsible for some doofus downshifting the transmission into explode mode and then trying to blame Ford .

I should add. Between the wife and I, we've owned 5 Escapes. 2003, 2008, 2010, and two 2017 (one 1.5 and one 2.0) The 2013 on are more station wagon than SUV but the 2017s have the paddle shifters that are almost like an automatic manual. I hear the newer ones have the dials like the Mav. The only saving grace is if you have different modes then you may be able to use them to change the shift points. I'm still trying to get used to the gas pedal relative to the shift points on the 8 speed auto. I could control the shifts somewhat in the 2017 without resorting to the paddles. I'm still getting used to that because I can improve the fuel mileage. I'm getting about 34.5 now with the 2.0L AWD. A tad better than the 2017 2.0L FWD with the 6 speed.

UPDATE - 43,871.7 miles
Friday, August 2, 2024
@ 1140, I26E, Exit 1 Landrum, SC.
Vehicle slowed, wrench warning light and message to get immediate service appeared.

At exit stop sign vehicle clunked and jerked as it stoped and accelerated from the sign.

Entered Ingles parking lot, found a secluded parking spot with good tow truck access.

Vehicle felt very subdued and lethargic when moving. When putting the transmission into reverse, heard a loud metallic clank, and felt a heavy judder.

@ 1200 Contacted Fairway Ford, and then Ford Roadside Assistance. Dealer was able to go online and see fault codes showing when I first contacted them, but said they related to the turbo bearings, told them it wasn’t the turbo clunking, but felt the same as when the previous transmission failed.

@ 1223 Received a pickup order confirmation, indicating 60-90 min ETA. This didn’t happen, but Ford Roadside Assistance did a pretty good job checking on the progress of the towing company and keeping me informed. Fortunately, my location allowed me to get out of the 95º heat for part of the time.

@ 1513 Tow truck arrived. Transmission would still allow Neutral to be selected, so getting the vehicle on the tow truck was not to difficult. Reached Fairway Ford at 1634, and got a rental car. Dealer will contact me next week when a diagnostic check has been completed.

Had an oil/filter change and recall service done on 07/25/2024. Did notice some difference in the transmission and performance after this service, but marked it up to the computers needing to relearn my driving habits/conditions after the recall software was installed. When I picked the vehicle up the service advisor told me this might occur.

Guess I will have to see what happened, and then make a decision about how to handle it. This is my first new Ford product since the first Maverick car back in the early 1970s. Traded a Honda Ridgeline to get this truck, and have driven Toyota vehicles for over 40 years. Now wondering if I made a good decision. Up until now was willing to cut Ford some slack as this was a completely new line/model, but what appears to be two major transmission problems, and continuous recall notifications, in less than 3 years of ownership is quite troubling.

Plus am also experiencing problems with the Ford rollup Tonneau Cover I installed. Seems the felt protective padding adhesive detaches in hot weather, this is only the second summer, but since the cover is over two years old, the warranty has expired. So now I have two problems to deal with.

Really glad this didn't occur in a more dangerous location. Could have been much worse. Beginning to get concerned about using the truck and have this happen again. Not sure it won't ruin some planed trips, or cause an accident if in heavy traffic, or on when on some remote, twisty mountain roads in our area.
