So I’m at the dealer to perform the latest two recalls, and he’s saying that the dash cam I have plugged into the fuses under passenger mat has interfered with the BCM flash performed under recall 24S27B.

He said it might be bricked and I might need a new BCM. Worst case they unwire the dash cam and try again or replace the BCM.

I guess I was ignorant about that fuse area being what was considered the BCM?

Sounds like the dealer is trying to get out of having Ford pay for their failure. I'd document everything, and if the dealer persists, push it up to Ford.

Ask the dealer where you should connect the dash cam if not at the fuse box.

Pretty sure that is where ford connects the dash cams they install at dealerships.

ask if they had your battery on a trickle charger. The only way you brick the BCM is if the UPDATE is interrupted due to something like low voltage and the cable being disconnected.. They likely are blaming your dash cam for draining the voltage. It's not that it's pulling power from an improper place. The 12v outlets stay on for 75-90 minutes in the Maverick. So even if you had it connected to the 12v outlet, it would still drain the battery to an extent..

Ford by recall procedure should use a low voltage battery charger/maintainer when doing these recalls..

They would tell you in the USB connection because it’s shielded.

Yeah I had already asked about that. They said they use a trickle charge. They are saying that the cam being plugged in causes “resistance” not accounted for in the update.
I’m gonna be without it for 3 days now. Waiting on part from CA.

When I looked at Ford's dashcam package a year or 2 ago it got its power from the OBD2 port. Pretty lame for an OEM design. You would think they would have a power connector in the harness for it.

Or just an inline harness that could easily plug in between something else.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll plug mine into the accessory port until I get the recall done.
