I did send this to the NTSB.

Mine just died in the middle of a highway. Switched into neutral doing 60, almost got hit by a semi that was right behind me when the truck switched and started to rapidly decelerate. Adding to that fun was when the vehicle automatically switched into park while there still was forward motion. My family was in the truck too, them screaming we’re going to die (for real) and the truck telling me everything is failing is not what I expect out of a modern vehicle. I didn’t think I would have to put my family’s life at risk while driving a ford. These vehicles need to be taken off the road and ford needs to be held responsible. Least ford could have done was turn on my Hazard lights.

The dealer is telling me they can’t recreate it and the codes don’t match the recall. But they see the limp mode… I hate this dealer I have no other option. I’m so sick of ford and my maverick.

Does anyone have any replacement truck suggestions?

I had a similar event happen when my passenger unknowingly nudged the shifter while placing a bottle in the cupholder. Well, minus the screams. I calmly pulled onto the shoulder, shifted it back into Drive, and carried on.

I hope you find a vehicle your family feels safer in.

I believe you'll find that most vehicles have had issues since 2020. While some may disagree, brands like Ford, Honda, Chevy, Kia, and Jeep/Dodge all face problems. For instance, I owned a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and at 7,000 miles, it needed a rocker arm replaced due to a ticking noise. It's disappointing that a $55,000 vehicle required engine repairs so early. They fixed it, and I sold it at 14,000 miles, but it seems that almost every vehicle has issues nowadays. A lot of this is due to worker shortages and a weak economy, which stem from multiple poor policy decisions. Elections have consequences.

Yes! Sell your truck and sue Ford for anxiety induced pain and suffering. Those @ssholes.

A very similar situation happened to me as well. One morning I start my truck to go to work and there were alerts all over the dash (several). I tried to drive it to work as my dealer is very close to my work, but it would not drive past 20 MPH and accelerated on its own even. I gradually slowed down and pulled over and the vehicle slammed into park. I was able to turn around and get it home. I let it sit for 20 minutes and then it let me drive it to the dealer thankfully (no limits on speed or odd behavior, but the warnings in the dash remained).

My dealer told me that they sent my codes and info. to Ford and Ford provided them instructions on software updates. To my understanding it's the PCM that needs to be updated. This happened about a week ago. No issues since. 2023 Hybrid XL

People just have to keep reporting these incidents to NHTSA. That is the only entity on the planet that has your well being in mind (well, there is also IIHS and a few others).

And I'm not slamming Ford. I like Ford. They're not evil monsters or anything. But often an OEM won't even see a statistical safety problem until an external agency shoves the statistics over the table, backed by the investigative and punitive power of the federal government.

No issue reports from owners, no statistics to shove across the table.

Actually more like the economy is doing so well that companies are slipping back into the “we’re so profitable we don’t care” mode. Unemployment is way down, markets and profits way up, skilled employees are getting raises… Been a long time since the economy was this hot.

As to Ford, they clearly acknowledge the quality problem is systemic and needs to be fixed. But Farley is still struggling to get his arms around it.

A hard failure like that is a safety issue. I'd consult legal advice.

I mean, unless the engine or drive train catastrophically failed (blew up), there is NO reason for it to just stop going. You could have been killed.
