I've got an OBD dongle and can't see where to get transmission temp. How'd you get it? I can find coolant temp but not transmission. That would be great info.

and yet no OEMs require shorter intervals with hybrid engines. Plug-in hybrids will actually run the ICE if it hasn't been run in a certain period of time, even if your battery has enough power - to ensure that the oil is circulated and the engines comes up to temp, etc.

I still have yet to see the doom and gloom of longer oil change intervals in reality. Yes some engines have issues - Honda fuel dilution comes to mind - but of all the various designs that we have out there now, an owner is fine going by the factory interval.

When you change eCVT fluid is it a complete drain or does some still remain? In my other cars I always added the same amount that I drained out.
MIne drained 4 quarts and took 4. Not sure what the total capacity is, but the parts dept. indicated 5. Returned one, but good to have on hand for the change.

Cheers.

Is that fuel dilution in reference to the 1.5 l turbo Honda engine?

OBDII "ScanGauge III".
Shows me about 75 sensors in real time.

Since water is above the standard 185 you can surmise I was working a decent grade. Transmission stays cool wonderfully.

Ran 15% of the time and probably never got up to operating temp and burned off any moisture that inevitably gets into all engines and oil and contaminants it. Thus the reason for regular oil change intervals (5,000) not extended oil change intervals (10,000), even on and more importantly Hybrid engines that only run a little bit and never get to operating temp.
Nope.
Lets put rumors to bed.
Most short distance high mileage trips for me are similar to this. Maybe I get to 160-165°F in the dead of winter.

That seems like an excessively short eCVT fluid change interval, given that (a) the manufacturer specified the first change at 150k miles, (b) its essentially just a diff and not a tranny with clutch packs and overheated fluid to wear out, (c) people who have changed it report that the fluid is clean with essentially no metal in it. Unless its been in a flood, I think I'd believe Fords recommended interval in this case.
The transmission fluid also is the coolant for the motors. I plan on doing a fluid change at 75k to be on the safe side. It's a PITA because the driver-side wheel and wheel well liner must be removed to access the fill plug.

The wheel and liner don't have to be removed. Turning the wheels to the left gives enough access. I used a funnel and some 1/2" tubing for the fill. As easy as a regular oil change, no filter mess.

Cheers.

What's everybody changing their oil at after purchase for the first change?3k?5k?
when the truck tells me too :) I'm at 5k and still waiting. Looks like it's going to be right at one year for me. I'm guessing Ford likes 1 year or around 10k, whichever comes first.
Only use full syn oil for these schedules.

Is this an android or ios device? I've thought about mounting a smaller tablet above the current screen for forscan info. Do you leave the OBD plugged in 24/7 or just when you want to get data off it?

I use forscan with my laptop on windows 11 but wasn't aware it worked for mobile devices.

Man that's great. I wonder where they get the OBD codes for it. I've got a nice OBD app for my phone and a nice wireless OBD dongle but the only parameter I can't get to work is the transmission temp. That would be super useful. I looked up your unit and it's $270, which is a little more than I was wanting to spend tbh.

I run Android, but I think Forscan is agnostic. I only use mine when I am doing maintenance and for post maintenance runs- monitor a number of temps and pressures. I think there are folks on here doing similar to what you want with old smartphones as well, and just leaving the dongle in place, should not be a problem.

You ain't kidding. This is from my first oil change last fall. Freaked out at first thinking blown head gasket or who knows what. But after much research and a Blackstone lab test, the oil is fine and it's exactly what you said: short drives, cooler weather, engine never fully warming up. One longer drive and the 'pudding' is gone.
