Agree. Mechanically the eCVT is more similar to a manual transmission than a traditional automatic, CVT, dual clutch, etc., as it deletes any friction-based components (clutches, bands...) or a torque converter that causes deterioration of fluid by sheer.The truth is, you probably don't have to change it at all unless you are really hard on it. Most people won't and they will be fine.
THIS IS NOT A TRANSMISSION LIKE ANY OTHER in the past, unless you had an Escape or Fusion Hybrid.
These planetary transmissions are very gentle on the oil and they never get hotter than 20 degrees above whatever ambient is. Really.
IMO, changing fluid maybe every 60k or even at 100k intervals mi may be beneficial to remove small amounts of circulating metallic particulates, or any fluid deterioration causes by the heat from friction and motors.
As '22 hybrids gather miles--most likely to have high miles in the near future-- it would be interesting to observe reports of fluid condition at 60k to 100k miles.
