I'm not even going to worry about what other people think the Maverick is not. I'm happy with what it can do and it's the cheapest new truck you can find on the market currently.
Tell it like it is. The Mav is definitely a beast.

Is the F-150 a truck?
I pulled along side an older F-150.
I don't know the year.
But his standard cab truck was overall the same size as my Maverick. With his shorter cab he had a longer probably 6 foot bed.

From the Net:

Maverick: 200L x 69H x 73W

2000 F-150: 206L x 76H x 78W
195 HP
5,000 towing

1995 F-150: 197L x 74H x 79W
150 HP
Payload 1690 lbs
7,000 towing

1990 F-150: 210L x 74H x 79W
145 HP
Payload 1500 lbs
5,000 towing

When I look up a Maverick in the FORD parts catalog, it's listed under the car section, not trucks. So, to answer your question, FORD says it's a car.

After driving mine for almost 3 years I miss my good old 2000 Ranger.
Meh, Ford markets it as a truck. The NCDOT lists it as a truck. Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, and Car & Driver call it a truck. I'll go with truck.

Just wanted to demonstrate that a Maverick is, in fact, a truck and can do truck things! There's a lot of naysayers out there that say otherwise. They make comments like, "That's not a man's truck!" or "It's just an Escape with a bed!" or like this one that I actually got from a Youtube comment, "lol drives like a car because it is a car! I’d be embarrassed to drive that ugly thing! It’s a car with a truck bed. Food stamp version of a truck." FYI, I just hauled twenty huge bags of mulch in this thing. Something that an F-150 or even a Ranger can accomplish that the Maverick just accomplished with no fuss.

And just last weekend, I used it to load up my brother's old entertainment set to the dump. I forgot to take a picture but trust me, it was a real b**** to load and unload and took up more than the length of the bed but it's just proving my point even more. The Maverick is a real truck no matter what the haters say, it's just minimized. I guess they're just jealous that they can't achieve over 40 mpg, can park it easily wherever they go, or have the comfort of a sedan or crossover.
The Maverick has the same payload capacity of the Toyota Tacoma and I don't hear anyone saying the Tacoma isn't a truck. There's not much this little truck can't do. Case in point . . .

I use mine to haul gravel and tow a trailer. I've even loaded it with 1700 pounds of lumber. It's no minivan, it's a truck. I replaced my '02 Dodge Ram and my '07 Tacoma with the Maverick. It's a truck.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it just may be a duck - Oxford Reference:) and haters hate. It's a freaking truck. My wife loves hers and it looks adorable parked next to my F-150:)

Three loads of unfiltered fill dirt over the weekend. The last one was sketchy. Just changing lanes at 45mph got the truck feeling mighty squirrely. My mudflaps were almost scraping pavement.

I wish that were true, people get really whiny about the Maverick on literally any site that isn't here or another Mav focused group.

I haven't even got mine yet and my brother is already on with the stupid comments about why I didn't get a "real" truck or how I should have waited 12-18 months and paid $15,000 more for a Tacoma because they're "better".
Although, this is a guy who has crapped on every Toyota I've ever owned so I'm very used to ignoring him but I already know he isn't going to be the last person to tell me how I should have spent my money.
Yeah, same, My brother bought a 23 Tacoma and likes to make those same dumb comments. Looking and riding in his Taco though doesn't elicit any feelings of envy from me. I still would much rather have the Maverick than his 23 Taco.

The ultimate question is, "What do you want your truck to do?" I've had a few 1500 (couple of Chevy and a Doge). They did what I wanted them to do. Now I'm pushing 66, and 66 is pushing back real hard. The Mav does exactly what I need it to do. I've moved some significant items, but I don't have to do it everyday as in years past. Perfect truck for occasional truck work, and great for a daily driver. I love it!

Just my buddy and me out doing truck stuff in my hybrid. Made a run to Northern Tool and Lowes with the dog in tow. Included my trip numbers for the way there and back. Made a few other stops in between there while we were out, but only took the pictures of the longer runs.

Ford's website lists it under trucks & vans, not cars & SUV's.
