Just wanted to demonstrate that a Maverick is, in fact, a truck and can do truck things! There's a lot of naysayers out there that say otherwise. They make comments like, "That's not a man's truck!" or "It's just an Escape with a bed!" or like this one that I actually got from a Youtube comment, "lol drives like a car because it is a car! I’d be embarrassed to drive that ugly thing! It’s a car with a truck bed. Food stamp version of a truck." FYI, I just hauled twenty huge bags of mulch in this thing. Something that an F-150 or even a Ranger can accomplish that the Maverick just accomplished with no fuss.

And just last weekend, I used it to load up my brother's old entertainment set to the dump. I forgot to take a picture but trust me, it was a real b**** to load and unload and took up more than the length of the bed but it's just proving my point even more. The Maverick is a real truck no matter what the haters say, it's just minimized. I guess they're just jealous that they can't achieve over 40 mpg, can park it easily wherever they go, or have the comfort of a sedan or crossover.

I'm not even going to worry about what other people think the Maverick is not. I'm happy with what it can do and it's the cheapest new truck you can find on the market currently.

It's a truck. The function, not the construction determines a vehicle. Is a minivan not a van because it is unibody and it is smaller than a full size, body on frame van?

Lets see. A pickup like an F-150 (1) has a bed (2) can tow stuff (3) has some off road capability.
and the Maverick (1) has a bed (2) can tow stuff (3) has some off road capability. Sounds the same to me. Where does it say a pickup HAS to be built on a frame? There a rule book or something I haven't seen?

Everybody has a different vision of what a truck should be. Most people I talk to are impressed with my Maverick and are even more impressed when I tell them my gas mileage and the fact that it is not even a hybrid so expect more with them.

I have owned 2 chevy 1500 trucks, 2 Chevy Avalanches and a Toyota back when they only had small trucks. In some ways that Toyota was my favorite truck and it was an SR-5 Toyota with a 22R 4 cyl motor and 5 speed.

Planning on replacing the Avalanche with a Maverick (hence being on the site and learning about the pros-many and cons-few of the Maverick) in the next 6 months. I don't need a full size truck anymore and the specs of the Maverick fit the bill. And compared to the growing ever larger and in my opinion ugly (GM mostly) full size trucks and the fact that even their "small" midsize trucks get dismal gas mileage, a Maverick or Santa Cruz was what I researched. A smaller truck that gets mpg in the 20s to low 30s for the 2.0 and looks stylish vs outlandish is what sold the Maverick for me. We leased a 2017 Ecoboost Escape that had great power/good mpg for a small SUV.

My local dealers are still adding "additional market adjustment" stickers on the Maverick which is one reason I am waiting and may buy out of state all the while they are now discounting the full size Rams, F150s and Chevy/GMCs.

Thanks to everyone on the site sharing the Maverick ownership experience.

We have nothing to prove to people that use terms like “it’s not a man’s truck” or put others down for needing help affording food.

Why do so many people care if other people consider it a car or a truck? You will never convince people one way or the other. All that matters is if you like it or not. Nobody else's opinion on it means squat.

In my experience most people aren't open minded and the percentage seems even higher amongst most "truck guys" I know

When I look up a Maverick in the FORD parts catalog, it's listed under the car section, not trucks. So, to answer your question, FORD says it's a car.

After driving mine for almost 3 years I miss my good old 2000 Ranger.

I just meant that in a general sense, particularly for the Hybrid owners. I have almost achieved 40 mpg in mine, I topped out at 38.

Probably the same guys that drive Chevy and won’t load any real weight in them. Or haul anything bigger than a small trailer.
Those same people also like Toyota and per sitting down. So I will continue to use my maverick for more than they use the “real” truck they have
