Living in Montana, they don't say it but you can feel it. Especially when they ride your ass and have to get up to 100 to pass you. It's hilarious. I just think: "there are your single digit MPG's to arrive 10 minutes before me at the next road closure". Education up here is not the greatest...

I’ve never had anyone in person say anything negative, but have had a lot of curious people come up and ask questions. Often when I’m doing something silly like this:

Ford Maverick Who Says the Maverick Isn't a Real Truck? IMG_0567

It’s more than enough truck for me to make money, better mileage than my old Tacoma or ridge line, and is far easier to park at urban job sites than all the lifted monstrosities around here that only haul groceries.

I'm sorry who cares if someone thinks it is or is not a real truck. Raise your hand if you bought a Maverick and were concerned what someone else thinks. I bought a vehicle. Truck or not don't care. So far only thing in the bed has been water softener salt and water from Costco.

These are the same type of ignorant comments as questioning the Mav as a real truck. Stupidity has no boundary.
I'm not criticizing the people who actually need the fullsize capabilities of a super duty. I'm bashing the people driving lifted super duty and f-150s who don't need those kinds of trucks, yet they bash people who drive more sensible vehicles.

Like my neighbor who has a ram 2500 dually on 26 inch rims. He doesn't need a truck that can tow, he clearly doesn't use it to tow, it's basically a show piece. Now normally, I'd say, that's fine, live your life. But it's been very well documented than large, heavy pickups like that pose a greater risk to other motorists and pedestrians than your average car. So the people who drive trucks like that who don't need them or who have no real purpose for them, are basically increasing the risk of everyone around them just because they want to show off. That doesn't sit right with me.

ehhh more like an SUV with a truck bed which pretty much means its a truck... Subaru Baja. now that's a car with a pick up bed. El camino? that's a car with a pickup bed. The maverick?? not so much. A CAR WITH A BED IS A UTE. and the Maverick is not a UTE...
I'm a little sad that Ford didn't call it the Ranchero but on the other hand, I can't imagine many people under the age of 40 are likely to know what a Ranchero is.

Sure, they market it as a truck but when it really comes down to how it was built and what they consider it to be, the Mav is a car with a pickup bed.

So does having a bed make it a truck or body on frame construction? So is a Tahoe a truck?

Exactly, it becomes an arms race. My 17 year old son started driving my VW golf and part of what me uncomfortable is all the giant trucks driven aggressively

Don't worry, the high quality interior plastic of your VW will protect little Gonzo Jr.

A lot of folks drive full sized pickups because of 17 year old drivers.

When I look up a Maverick in the FORD parts catalog, it's listed under the car section, not trucks. So, to answer your question, FORD says it's a car.

After driving mine for almost 3 years I miss my good old 2000 Ranger.
When looking at dealer inventory
At ford dealerships Maverick is listed
Under trucks
Not cars

True, but some of those full-size pickup drivers are 17-year-olds..... Not sure if that first sentence was sarcasm or not, but the quality of the plastics is a lot nicer than the Maverick but that's kind of expected, at least for me.

I don't care what others say but my first hauling was for a wedding. They decided to get married in the tabernacle of our camp. I stopped by his store and picked up dead chickens. Upto the gunnels. Lots of dead chickens for 500 folks at the reception. It was a nice break in for the machine.

If folks don't think it hauls much I'm not asked to move people to the new house. Dead chickens, yes. Refrigerator, no.

IDK, maybe we have a chevy parts guy here who can check his catalog and see what they call it.

As I stated earlier, Ford MARKETS these as trucks. Why do you suppose they are in the car section of the parts catalog?

So Ford apparently calls it both. I wasn't sure they were the arbiter of everything though. So if they call the Ford focus a pickup truck it's suddenly becomes one? I was asking more generally. You know, considering they're just one automaker

For all of us Maverick heads, we get why the Maverick is useful. For the 7 years I drove my Prius, I kept saying to myself, "Would someone please go back to a small truck and make one with a hybrid?" I don't like the big trucks. I don't like $5 per gallon of gasoline and $800 or more per month of my income going out of tailpipe. Big trucks take up two spots in parking lots and completely block your view when they park next to you. They block the road in front of you, like a big billboard driving down the freeway. They belong on the farm, on a work site and doing all those things we see them doing in commercials.

In my Maverick, I can make a U-turn from a stop light without backing up to complete the turn. I sit higher while on the freeway. And yes, the occasional idiot in his big block V-8 truck will try to keep me from merging over in the next lane by speeding up............only to find that I can pass him and get in the lane! I have picked up mulch, furniture and have hauled things in my "little Maverick". And here's the real kicker. Every time I stop at the gas station to get gas, someone in his big ass truck asks me was it worth it to get such a small truck. I just smile and say, "Yes, and I can't believe I get 45 mpg in the city".
