It's always funny to me when people go crazy over this stuff yet they never worry about the number item that everyone has that collects more personal data than all other products combined... you're cell phone!

I'm not justifying what Ford and all other car manufacturers are doing, in fact I don't like it at all. But we accept it when we purchase their products. The alternative is to drive an old car that doesn't collect data.
The alternative is to call your representatives and tell them to write a bill banning Ford from collecting and selling your info.

Wait till the 'gummint' finds out my secret identity!
I'd tell you, but you can just ask anyone at the DHS...literally anyone. Really. They all know.
PS: the earth is flat and birds aren't real, man.

Our representatives are first in line at the data dump.

An interesting aside..... Many of the newer cars handshake with our mobile phone when we are in them whether we connect or not, or own the car.

Often when Im testing a new press car and we start driving around in it, ads start showing up for that car on both me and my husband's devices even before I've keyed it in doing research.

So when the car offers Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, offers Alexa or Google connections you're in. ;)

Think about this for a minute, when sitting at the dealership buying your new vehicle, if they were honest and stated, BTW Ford will be monitoring your speed, acceleration, braking, miles, where you go, etc. and then we will sell this information to insurance companies and provide law enforcement all these details if requested, with or without a subpoena/warrant, would you honestly give them permission to do this?

The Office of Personal Management already gave ALL my info to China back in 2015. Who cares if the government knows I played The Heretic Anthem at full blast 6x in a row during a grocery store trip.
Yeah, I lead a fairly mundane life these days. Just don't want my identity stolen or more junk mail. I noticed that when I pulled over in a home depot parking lot to make a call I started getting their ads.
I'm going to park my Mav in a Faraday cage.

They also know how many times you exceed the speed limit, how many times you had to brake hard, where you've been, where you stopped, time of day, how long you were there, your maintenance records, and much more. Your insurance company is very interested in this information, and police can obtain it with a warrant.

One article states, "The Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit behind the Firefox internet browser, analyzed 25 car brands and concluded 84% share and sell customer data acquired through drivers’ use of their cars, third-party apps on the car's computer, and the car’s app itself, which can give the companies access to data on your phone."
It's easy to get lost in the noise out there.

People who claim they have nothing to hide are the ones the government tracks first.

If I gave a crap about it, I'd disable the spy, but I don't, so I won't.

So I wonder what happens with this tracking data when you sell your vehicle and don't reset infotainment, delete the vehicle from your Fordpass, Ford / other brand's account?

I opened up my Maverick's TCU, no backup battery inside as I saw on some online photos of it.

My GM TCU does have the backup battery that was supposed to take over if 12V was lost during an accident. GM was sending my VIN to LexisNexis to log every trip's data.
Neither TCU have the fuse installed now.

My Escape still has Fuse F11 installed as Ford spliced in the Liftgate controls to it along with the TCU.
Turned off what I could in its infotainment settings.

My Maverick's TCU:
Ford Maverick YES, your car spying on you and automakers are selling the info 23 Maverick 2.5L TCU - No Backup Battery

If you haven't already, go to equifax, Experian, and TransUnion and freeze your credit. Set up a pin you can remember. The service is free and prevents your stolen identity from applying for accounts and loans.
