I'm thinking about getting an extended warranty for my 22 XL. What is the consensus on which plan to get: Basic, Extra Care , or Premium?

Thats a tough call much of which depends on finances...

I got the premium care noting that there is quite of bit of technology in vehicles these days. The coverages for electrical and "High Tech" are better under premium and I thought worth the cost.

Here is a link to Flood Ford's information on those plans which, IMHO, makes it much easier to compare plans and costs.

I bought the Premiumcare with Roadside for 96months and 100k miles. I thought the price was fair thru Granger. Hopefully I'll never need it, but like RDRahn mentioned, there's alot of electronics.:)

I went for premium for the same technology reasons. A one and done bit of money for great peace of mind. You can’t maintain computer chips and if the tech fails, it always seems to fail big. I used the Flood Ford info to get the dealer to match; they have a nice chart laying out the coverages on their web site. Worked well.

OH. and Granger ford sells this for only $50 over their cost (at cost until the end of Feb)/

I also chose the premium care plan through Granger, during their February special. The main advantage of that plan is the coverage of electronic issues that are likely to trigger the 'check engine' warning. That alone could cost hundreds of dollars to dx and repair. I got the 10 year coverage, figuring we will likely keep the truck that long and will probably encounter at least a few problems during that time.

Having been a Ford Dealership Service Advisor for 25 years (retired 5 years ago) on my 2022 XL Hybrid I purchased a 8yr/60k mile Premiumcare (with higher rental, first day rental and lights coverage). Just picked up my 2024 XL Hybrid today, I will be buying a 10yr/60K Premiumcare (I only have 11,8xx miles on my 2 year old 2022 so 6k/year is right, should be driving less as I get even older. Dealership gives all new sales a "free life-time" aftermarket powertrain warranty so even with that I purchase the Premiumcare warranty for other things not covered by powertrain.

People would always come in wanting Ford or the Dealership to pay for repairs after bumper to bumper warranty expired, it would have been unfair to those that paid for an extended warranty to do repairs at no cost for those that didn't pay for extended warranty.

2022 is for sale in "Market Place".

A lot of online posters say dealerships don't want to repair under warranty, we loved it when a customer had a warranty, made our job easier, just had to play the "game" to get coverage at times, most times on aftermarket warranties. With Ford, we knew what was covered.

Just try to figure how many miles and for how long so both end about the same time, whichever occurs first is the end of the warranty.

You can choose different deductibles, options are: disappearing (meaning zero deductible if repaired where warranty purchased, Zero ded, $50 and on up. Lower deductible plan will cost you more. I buy the zero, cost me more but zero at any dealer.

Also for those that travel, there are benefits for travel expenses if break down occurs away from home. (don't remember how far away) Food, lodging etc. Peace of mind.

Like any insurance, wasted money if you never need it, never have enough if you need it.

I think I only went the one up from basic. I have never had an issue with the Ford electronics in my cars and the Maverick is really low in high tech compared to what's out there now. My issues with Ford are always mechanical issues due to poor manufacturing suppliers and just plain bad design. Since I had Escapes in the past I know I may have drive train, half shafts - bearings, RDU or PTU issues down the road and I want that covered to 100K. Anything else breaks and I'll live with it or fix it myself. If this was a 100K+ vehicle like a C8 I would get coverage on everything...but I have still never had any electronics in my vehicles go dead.

I went with the 7yr/100,000 mile premium because of all the electronics. Wished I’d pumped it up to 8yr/125,000 mile as I’m driving a lot more than usual since I bought the mav. My wife’s explorer just sits in the garage. I’ve already got 30,000 on the mav.

Like many others, I went with a 10 year Premium plan to cover all the electronics. I also added the Lights option after seeing how much it can cost to replace halogen bulbs and tailight assemblies. The cost to repair normal items on new vehicles is off the charts so I wanted to cover everything. One repair reimbursement can pay for the policy.

I was going to wait until the month before the original warranty expired, but even if you do that you are still getting a 7 year warranty since it starts the day your vehicle went into service, not the day the extended warranty was purchased. I also spoke with a Granger rep and asked how much more the policy might be in three years and was told to expect at least a $100 increase. I ran estimates on their site for buying a warranty for a 2021 Bronco against a new 2024 Bronco and it did come out to $100.

They will raise the warranty price every October so there are three more increases. With the $50 dealer cost reduction, the $100 increase for waiting three years, and the cost of three price increases (using 7% as an example) I figured I would save at least $300 on the policy I selected if I purchased it now. The larger the policy the larger the savings.

The plans can be transferred to another buyer for $75, can be revised anytime during the original 36 month warranty, and can be cancelled at any time for a pro rated refund.

A vehicle manufacturer should make it well enough that you don't have to purchase an expensive " extended warranty". When the salesman tried to sell me one I stopped him.told him if our new maverick is as reliable as my 14 year old dodge an extended warranty won't be needed. Time I'll tell! Just my 2 cents.

I never buy an extended warranty from local dealer any more since I found out about floodfordesp.com. It’s way less expensive than local dealer price for same ford extended warranty.

I'm like many above and got the premium. I also suggest adding the light package so it covers LEDs etc... I used Granger because they are still offering dealer cost through tomorrow and did the 7yr/125k with light package. That should theoretically give me about 1-2 years after financing is done and I can make a decision to keep the truck long term or trade it in without worrying about major out of pocket expenses in the meantime.

For reference, I'm a former Toyota and Honda salesman and used to be against the warranties at the dealership due to cost. Once I left the industry and bought a used Subaru from the dealership I did get an extended warranty and within the first year went through 2 short blocks, 2 a/c compressors, 1 radiator, plus all the time and labor associated with it. More than covered itself and after that 1st year I never had a problem with the car again. I guess it really depends on your savings and discretionary income and whether you can afford to gamble with the houses money. I agree any major manufacturer should be able to make a reliable vehicle to last the first 100k miles or 5 years, but unfortunately that is not the world we live in right now.

Myself I don't believe in warranty's, you can put the same funds away for a rainy day if you want which is usually way after the factory warranty's expire. If you need warranty work trade it in, the dealer will be happy to absorb it and sell you a new vehicle. I traded in an Escape with a hit and run front fender on my Maverick and the dealer didn't even blink. They fix everything at cost. Over the years I bought a lot of vehicles using knowledge from an older car salesman that showed me the ropes.
