Sporty tire options?

OK folks, I have an XLT eco fwd with stock continental procontact tx tires. I never plan to take the truck off road, so I want to get sportier tires, but still get decent wear. I don't think the Conti's are bad, I'm just looking for better road performance on stock rims. What options are people running?

I just bought Michelin Defenders for my XLT. Made a very noticeable difference. And they are advertised as 80.000 mile tires. I have them on my 2012 Transit Connect also, and used them on my 2007 Focus Wagon. I'm a believer.....

How is the grip? Is it less because of the assumed harder compound?

Grip is the reason I recommend them. Much improved. I live in NorthEastern Pennsylvania, in the Endless Mountains. Lots of up and down, and very few straight roads!! These tires handle the curves better than any other tires I have tried in the last 50 years. And the Maverick is pretty good on its own. But the Michelins are in my opinion about 60% better handling than the stock Continentals. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

Michelin Defender are amazing tires if you stay on pavement and don't drive them through deep snow.

Michelin makes a great tire and the Defender is a great light truck tire and I run it myself on one of my trucks but I wouldn't consider it as a sport tire so much. It's often about compromise so a true sport tire is often (but not always) going to be summer only and not wear quite as long. But what you get is superior traction and handling. Michelin has the Pilot Sport for SUV's in your size that might be fun to try. Check the reviews.

Not sure if you need something like the Michelin Cross Climates or not, but they are widely regarded as some of the best tires on the market currently. Maybe they are a bit beyond sporty though?

If those are a bit too much into the all weather category for you, the Defenders are without a doubt some of the best. The CC2's are 3 peak rated so people run them year round in light snow areas.
