I've always had good luck with Khumo.

My Maverick has BFG Trail Terrain 245/70/17 and they look good-i've been asking around to try and trade them for stock FX4 tires as I have no need for them (came on the truck lightly used).

Looking at the same , + the goodyear trailrunners in a 235. Is there any worry of rub with 245s being almost 10in wide? Trying to stay in budget with tint, tires and tonneau, and still look and perform nice.

Also considering different tires/rims for my Mav, which is now sitting in the CSX yard in Jacksonville...as if the wait wasn't already long enough! So it continues...

Anyway, since I'll mostly be commuting but will be occasionally be going on dirt/sand/gravel roads, what's a good tire to consider? I'd like to do 235's or 245's for my XL.

If I ever get my maverick and when I need tires I'm going to look hard at the falken wildpeak trails. They are NOT same as the off road AT3's. It's a crossover tire with an aggressive look. They are 3 peak rated yet are designed for good on road performance as well. A similar tire is the BFG trail terrain T/A. Same design goal - good on road handling but capable off road.

Given that the mav isn't really designed to be an off road vehicle this compromise seems reasonable. I agree that the KO2's are too heavy.

Take a look at the 245/65/17 Dextero DAT1 All terrains at Wal-Mart. About $110 and made in the USA. They look good but no personal experience.

Lots of good option in those hybrid AT tires: Falken Trails, BF AT Trail, Nitto Nomad Grappler. All 3 Peak rated for winter.

My dad runs the Falken Trails on his CrossTrek and really likes them

I am getting a hybrid someday ( I hope ) and have decided to go with 245 65 nokian outpost apt to try to get decent mpg while getting a slightly more agressive look. Its 3 peak rated as well.

I live in s. florida so not worried about winter rated. Just looking for something for sandy fire roads.

Those should still all do well. Have a fairly aggressive look while still being good on the Highway and capable for most folks off pavement. The Nitto is really new but seems good and has 2 side wall designs
