OK folks, I have an XLT eco fwd with stock continental procontact tx tires. I never plan to take the truck off road, so I want to get sportier tires, but still get decent wear. I don't think the Conti's are bad, I'm just looking for better road performance on stock rims. What options are people running?
I was always a Michelin guy, ONCE I COULD AFFORD THEM. The Defender 2 will replace my original Continentals on my XL. My only complaint: to go from a 225 tire to a 235 tire costs $30 more, PER TIRE.

Following. I'm in southeast Florida and I'm please also looking for a sporty Tire that is affordable, safe in rainy conditions, and gets excellent mileage. Might be a bit of a unicorn but I'm looking for a tire that checks all the boxes.

I forgot to ask what you look for when you say 'sporty'.
Reason I ask is because the Mav isn't exactly a sport vehicle that will see fast turns and all that.

When I think sporty, typically I think of something grippy, particularly in the rain. But I know it can mean different thinks to different people.

Sporty to me means not offroad, great road grip and decent durability.

Where do you live? Do you experience a lot of snow?
Planning on running a separate set of winters? or prefer to have a single set of wheels/tires?

It's funny seeing this because there is a thread going around about online security issues (sharing license plate numbers) and then sure enough... someone steals someone's pic...

Crazy world we live in.

I was looking for a tire with good wet weather traction and occasional snow and the Cross Climate caught my attention because of the name. Looking around, I found Firestone WeatherGrip was rated similarly at a much better price. What surprised me, was how much more sporty the feel was, almost like a new car which is what you are looking for.

This was on an Escape, but I will be looking for something similar when I need tires for my new Mav. Make use of the comparison charts you can find at Tire World and Discount Tire to see how various tires stack up against the Cross Climates and Defenders, particularly in the handling category. I think most similar tires will give you a better feel than the OEM's.

I need to apologize to you. I honestly never looked at my avatar until last night. I didn't choose it, I assume that an administer chose it after I described what I had ordered. I figured out how to change it this morning and have done so. I promise that this one is really a picture of my truck. Thank you for pointing out the error, again, my apologies for the unintentional misuse of your picture. Hope you have a great day! --dbp

I agree with you, but I honestly don't know how his picture showed up as my avatar. I finally figured out how to change the picture to one of my truck. I apologize to all. --dbp

Michelin Cross Climate 2 FTW! I have them on our CR-V. Almost 80K on them, and can go another 5-10K before I have to replace them. Great in snow and standing water. Depends upon your road surface, but I do find them noisier as the tread wears down. I can't highly recommend them enough!

Yeah that's why I asked OP about where he lives, if he'll run a second set etc.
If I was running a single set and will encounter snow, Cross Climate 2 are awesome.

I went with the Michelin CrossClimate 2. They excell at everything if you stay on the pavement.

Always a great choice. Curious to hear how the tires perform for over time! Thanks for sharing!

Over time, they still are amazing! As I said before, tread is still good at 80K. As the tread wears, not as good in the snow, but I think that has to do with the tire compound more than tread depth. Doesn't hydroplane even at this mileage. The only quibble is that as the CC2s wear down the tire compound changes and creates more noise. I'd buy them again!
