Hey guys,

Just picked up my 22 Ford Maverick Lariat. LOVE this thing...Need to upgrade tires asap.

I have the painted black 18" wheels with the 225.60.R18 Mich's on them.... Brutal at the cottage.

I plan on going with the "FireStone Destination AT2" 245.60.R18...

So my question really is can I go any bigger and if so what tire would you recommend ?

I need my Canadian friends to help me out a bit with our apparent language differences. What in the h_ll does tire size and rim type have with what is going on at the cottage and how are they making it brutal there at the cottage?? Just trying to bridge the language barrier!!! :)

Lol if I can translate…sounds like life at the cottage is rugged and maybe features some not-so-friendly road surfaces that might eat up fancy wheels and city slicker tires…..yes?

Remember that if you go too big it can effect the accuracy of your speedometer.

Haha...Thanks for translating

Trail based roads and these tires like to slip. Come fall or winter I need something with a little more traction and wouldn't mind moving up in size.

After checking some other threads these FireStone Destination AT2" 245.60.R18 seem to be my best option

I went with 235/65R18 which has a slightly larger diameter (30") and was a little cheaper than the same tire in 245/60R18 (~29.5"). I think that's as big of an 18" tire that you'll get to use on stock suspension without rubbing. I have no intention of lifting the Maverick since I don't want to deal with the possibility of worn CV axles and warranty issues.

yes any of the tire dealer websites offer your + sizes for your factory tire upgrade and yes 245/60/18 would be easy choice with plenty of options. i myself have the falken wildpeaks factory equipped that i am very happy with the performance in michigan winter and handling/wear pattern/and fuel economy with almost 19K miles and offered in the 245/60/18 size too.

How has MPG been effected by these tires? I'd like to ditch the pizza cutter sedan tires, but don't want to take a 4mpg hit either.

245/55-18 is the same diamater, but there are limited tires in that size. 225/60-18 open up a lot of options. 33lbs vs oem 25lbs is a pretty large step up in weight.

I get roughly 8L/100KM (Canadian eh!) So I believe that's roughly 28ish MPG.

I have already put 1000KM on the tires and think it's well worth the upgrade.

Do you have before and after mpgs? My readout was saying 27MPG, but when I hand calculated it only came out to 24.
