Here’s one I just noticed: no navigation on any trim or package. Its really nice to have the map up and running even when you’re not necessarily using it to navigate somewhere specific. Countless times a road has been blocked, or I get off a major route due to traffic, and with the map on I can easily see alternate routes without asking my phone where to go. I’ll get used to it, and I know everyone does the phone thing, but seems like a real miss.
Waze? Apple CarPlay and Google maps? Do you have….a flip phone?! 😳

haha, I get it but I don’t like nav systems because they get dated and need updating which the dealer is willing to charge a pretty penny for. Needless to say, they can shove it and I’ll use my phone.

I agree with you about preferring phone navigation, but the "pretty penny" is subjective. The Kia I have let's me have 2 free updates per year that I can do at home by loading the update onto an SD card. It is a 2015 with April 2021 maps and updates at no cost. I will agree though that the majority of manufacturers like to make a buck off of the updates.

Lucky. Last time I checked it was a $200 charge. 🙄 I’m not doing that.

I just don't see the point in duplicating technology. Nearly everyone has a cell phone that already gets updates. With a cell phone, you get to choose if you WANT to run navigation or not and through which app. And many of those apps are updated LIVE to include traffic jams and speed traps. But frankly, there's something beautiful about getting lost on back roads in a pickup truck. There's a sense of adventure that most modern cars just aren't built for, and I don't mean off-roading.

I'm still a mapper, have not carried a cel since I retired and don't own anything w/ Navigation. I enjoy taking road & motorcycle trips, mapping out the run beforehand. Even better yet, getting off the X-way and stopping for lunch and pulling out a map to see where I want to go and what roads look interesting. I think in most respects, the Maverick shoes into this perfectly. Adventure truck per'se, I wonder if a tent camping package will be offered as accessory in the future?

Yeah - actually at least with sync 3 on my ranger I get OTA updates on my home wifi whenever they become available. I think Ford is pretty good with this sort of thing! That said, with a smart phone and android auto you have up to date mapping in real time, can't beat that...

Yes, I agree that the continuous updates of a phone App (Waze for me) is the better way to go. I was just pointing out that not all manufacturers charge for updates.

Perhaps not, but not charging for updates kind of takes away the manufacturers' incentives to provide updates at all. Imagine buying a used pickup truck and the previous owner tells you that Ford no longer provides support for that model year or that the maps haven't been correct in quite some time. These kinds of things weren't really an issue 15 years ago.

I believe vehicles are required by law to be supported for 10 years. I think we're to the point that having an HVAC problem because the Body Control Module is faulty, and finding out that the BCM is no longer made or supported, is now a possibility.

I had a 2006 Lexus GX470 for a short while. The map updates were $99-$199 and came on a DVD, with the last available update from 2015. The final kicker was that there were two separate DVDs; west and east of the Mississippi River. I sold that vehicle a few months later to a friend of mine for an overland build, and neither he nor I updated the nav.

For on-road use, I use a Garmin Dezl 570. For off-road use, I use Gaia GPS on a refurbished iPad Mini Wifi + Cellular. The Wifi + Cellular version has a GPS receiver; WiFi only does not. I don't have a data plan for the iPad and just download the maps for offline use.

What most people have forgotten, is that in its first year the Maverick sold more cars than any car in Ford's history, including the first year Mustang. It was a basic, inexpensive car when low priced imports were starting to gain market share. For Ford, it was a huge success... I hope this new pickup can do the same!
That is an interesting fact that makes perfect sense. I hope this thing has the service I need and sells like the first one. Thanks for sharing.

same here. It's just a no brainer as the old Rancheros were the original Unibody small "pick up trucks". I had a 1964 Ranchero around 1980 and a 1973 in maybe 1994. Both with V-8s. Maybe Ford deliberately ignored the history and lineage because the focus was on new buyers to Ford vehicles and not nostalgia for us old timers. I'm wondering if they do have something in mind for the Ranchero name if the Maverick is a hit? They have been cross branding SUVs under the Lincoln name and used to have Mercury branded versions of Explorer. Maybe the 1st full BEV mini truck will get the Ranchero name...
You're right. when the youngsters hear Maverick, they think of Tom Cruise. I am toying with the idea of putting Ranchero badges on mine.

The Orange accents on the vents and door handles are ok, but too much on the center storage console. I also have to wonder what the Navy Pier interior (which I assume has bluish shades?) in a red truck with those orange accents? Doesn't seem too pleasing a color combo.

Yeah, thats why I quit updating maps in the onboard Nav. I use an app called Sygic since it does offline maps and works with Apple Carplay and Android via AppLink.
Connect Sygic Car Navigation with new Ford’s SYNC 3 - Sygic | Bringing life to maps

I got a discount to get a lifetime premium world subscription, and get updated maps every few months (I don't pay the extra for the monthly updates). Honestly, I like it better than Waze, Google or Apple Maps, and I figure for what cost me maybe $110, its updates for life.
