Could you blame anyone else but yourself?

Your ignorance is not Ford's fault, and from 2022 to 2024 they've actually done a decent bit of streamlining the packages that you can get and add on in an effort to reduce confusion and shorten delivery times.

I'm sorry you messed up and you aren't happy with the truck you ordered.
Oh I take full blame as I stated. However, is nobody looking at the price difference between a basic XL and a loaded Lariat? It's not like its a couple of thousand bucks...it's damn close to $20,000 difference! I understand Maverick is unique in the market but not for long...I'm just sayin'

The difference between a base XL and a Lariat is only $11,040.

The difference between a base SE Santa Cruz and a Limited is $14,420.

Ford is not unique, and the spread across 3 models is not the reason for your order error, and it won't be the reason the Maverick could lose their leader status in the compact truck segment. But, we've seen how that works out in the full size market with Chevy, RAM, Toyota, Nissan (RIP Titan!) all chasing Ford's tail...

Why do you feel the price difference between trims is a problem?

Seems to me, you'll get more sales appealing to a variety of budgets.

My numbers are directly from Ford's and Hyundai's websites - I feel pretty confident.

Mind you - you're showing a screenshot of a Lariat with an off-roading package - not a trim level so you're not going apples to apples there my guy. I can run a Hyundai SC Limited up to around $45k with options and its the same damn near $20k spread.

The spread has nothing to do with not ordering the truck you wanted.

Sorry for not being clearer but my point is that Ford has gone to "a la cart" pricing which is exactly what allowed the imports of the 80's to break into the market. This killed the big 3 and not until 90's did they catch on and started adding a lot of features into the list price. I guess I'd be real curious how many XL's with no options are on the road...obviously take out those purchased for commercial purposes. I believe the old term for it was "bait and switch!" Low price gets you in the door...then the up-sell.

Well, not sure what you've been up to for the past 50 years or so, but Ford (& most other OEM's) have actually scaled back single feature content. The light truck market requires more of that vs cars & SUV's, due to the sheer scope of the category. Ford has dominated this market for 40+ years, they seem to have a pretty successful strategy. The success of the Maverick is just another example of that.

I'm having trouble trying to determine just what your agenda is. Who cares how many no-option XL's are sold, the fact remains that Ford gives you a choice, with different powertrains, FWD vs AWD, and creature comforts. You yourself have now bought 2 mid-trim level XLT's. Do you feel they should ONLY offer 1 trim/powertrain level?

Maybe Best Buy should only sell a single 24" flat screen TV?

This is not a complement. The Japanese grew in the US market in the 80's because they made most options on US cars as standard on theirs. If you got a 1980 AMC Spirit it came with a motor, 4 tires and a steering wheel. You wanted an AM radio...extra, you wanted A/C...extra, you wanted wheel covers and not hubcaps...extra. Well Ford is back to this idiotic logic with the Maverick. I bought a new 2023 Maverick XLT hybrid from a dealer off of the lot. I got it for $31k. Had heated steering wheel and seats, bed light with 12v plug and AC converter, had back up sensors with display. Probably some other stuff I can't remember. Thought I would have it till July 2024 when my 2024 XLT FX4 was allegedly being delivered. However, Ford screwed that up and I got my car in Dec 2023! That being said, I guess I should have really looked at the order form a little better. Found out XLT really doesn't mean a whole lot other than it a step up from the XL. I ordered a sunroof, spray liner, bed cover, mud flaps, tow package yet I didn't realize until I got it there was no heated seats, no bed lights or adapters, a backup sensor that just warns you with no display to show how close. Shame on me I guess for assuming a lot of those came with the XLT model. I really like my truck but I would have paid for those options had I known I needed to. Shame on salesman for not pointing any of that out as well.
What Ford is doing is making it sound like a truck for $23k as long as you only need a motor, 4 wheels and hub caps. Welcome to 1980 pricing!
Oh Tom, GO AWAY! You can pay $40,000 for a Maverick if you want all the googaws! Fortunately, for folks like me, they made a truck for $19,995, WHICH I COULD AFFORD. Of course it doesn't have Blue Teeth and all the other horseshit, but I am driving a damn nice truck.

We had a saying in the Navy that fits you perfectly: Some people would bitch if you hung them with a NEW rope.

What let in the imports of the 80s was not the a la cart pricing as you mentioned. It was a combination of gas prices going up, fears over gas shortages, increasing EPA regulations, and raising demand for more fuel efficient cars. This caught the big 3 off guard and they scrambled to figure out how to make a car meeting those needs. This led to very poor overall quality of American cars.

At the same time the Japanese auto makers were getting over their low quality of the 70s and by the 80s they had things figured out and were making better quality cars than the Americans and their sells took off like a rocket. Also the Japanese cars were smaller and therefore more fuel efficient which also spurred on demand.

Bottom line for most folks during the 80s perceived American cars as plagued with quality issues and Japanese cars could do no wrong.

That's not how bait and switch works. Advertising a lower priced item and not having it available leaving you with only a higher priced option is bait and switch. You are correct in the term upsell. and nothing wrong with that.
