If you have ANY relatives who have served military, try USAA rates. I've been with them for 20+ years, they have always been cheapest. (totally clean driving record, married, older). Live in SC, Mav is garage kept.

I have 3 cars insured, Maverick and Odyssey are full coverage (higher than minimum liability coverages), just liability on old Miata, $900/year.
I called USAA and tried online and was told my father (rip, honerably discharged Army) wasn't a reason for me to join or get insurance.

If you are being quoted $5600 a year then something non-Maverick related is going on. :cautious:

They are starting to lose their edge. Was with USAA for 20 years, just left for NC Farm Bureau. FB was $600/yr cheaper for homeowners for similar coverage. I will say their car insurance rates were very similar.

My family just did the same. They left USAA for progressive as it was much cheaper with better coverage. Homeowners still through USAA but all their vehicles are through progressive currently. That includes trailers, ATVs, and a camper. For me it's easier - I just have the Maverick now as a single DD, my bike and my house; all still through USAA.

Rates will go up this year for everyone, if they have not already. Doesn't matter what company it is. Something about estimates were missed blah blah blah just a way for insurance companies to charge more collectively.

But on the subject of vehicles alone, I checked with 3 other companies and USAA was still the cheapest and best, even though my rates went up from $120 a month to $150 recently. I have pretty low deductibles and don't opt for much of the extra stuff.

8k miles a year.
$300 collision / comprehensive
20% additional value if totalled
$25k / 50k bodily (minimum)
$20k property (minimum)
Uninsured / underinsured same as above.
No medical
No extended benefits
Accident forgiveness (kind of a sham but it's like $1 a month)
Rental and towing

Currently $900 for 6 months.
Up from $720.
$180 increase and still somehow cheaper than everywhere else I checked. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is. Changing from $300 to anything higher isn't worth it as it only reduces the payments by $20 a month and the biggest threat around me is wildlife and weather. Decreasing to $200 gives a $15 increase so $300 is the sweet spot for me. That is just for the Maverick.

Anyways... Insurance sucks. No idea why your quote is so much but it sounds like it's definitely not Maverick related. Just know that rates have skyrocketed recently.

Then their commercials on TV are certainly misleading.

If you are young and can get into USAA, do it. Nonprofit, and one of the largest bank-agencies on the planet. Each year you are refunded (tax free) the equivalent of excess profits. And after 40 years (yes, I've been a member for 40 years), you start getting an extra refund that is 10% of your Subscriber Savings Account (SSA) balance - I get my first check this spring. All "profits" from USAA go into your SSA, which is a source of funds in case they get a year of crazy claims.

Best bank/insurance agency ever. Nothing like it on the planet that I've seen.

I'm still a member and love them, and I recommend them for lots of reasons (especially the fact that the rate you pay is usually less than what the quote is - because you get a tax free rebate each year).

But I do agree with you they're not the same USAA they were 20 years ago. Once they started hugely expanding by serving the NCO and "I have a relative" markets, service became way more impersonal. One of the generals that typically runs the place must have had visions of greatness he obviously didn't achieve in the military, and he apparently realized his dreams by making USAA a behemoth.

I am 52 live in Indiana and I am less that $900 for the year. It was less than my used 2017 Ford Flex.

San Diego CA on a 2024 Lariat hybrid, $500,000 bodily injury and full coverage, $1,000 collision deductible, based on 5,000 miles per year, rated as driven to work or school, no accidents or citations added $1372/year, $12/year less than my wife's Lexus.

Michigan $1171. Mainly for the Maverick. I have a 2001 Kia Sportage I keep on the insurance to get the multi car discount. It been sitting in my polebarn for ten years waiting to get put back together, blown head gasket.
$1million property protection and liability insurance. $1000 deductible on collision.
The comprehensive costs me $92/year on the Sportage and saves me about $250.

The rates dropped 30% a couple years ago due to some state mandated changes. The insurance companies have figured out how to raise it back up over those two years so now I'm paying even more for less insurance.
I'm 67 and the wife doesn't drive so it's just me on the policy as a driver.
