I have a 2022 XLT hybrid. Did not get a hitch due to constraints then.
Ready to have hitch installed, where have people gone .

The Uhaul hitch hangs down lower than you would expect - enough to cause issues. The factory hitch sits a lot higher, as it inserts into the "frame". However, it requires a 5-hour remove-everything-back-of-the-axle job on a hoist, along with a bunch of now-broken pushpins to replace. Both do not come with any wiring, so Uhaul typically just cuts into the light wiring, causing corrosion issues after a couple of years. Factory is another wiring harness, so order that at the same time. All that labour makes the factory hitch install pretty expensive, but its a much better end product. At the end of the day, its your choice.

The 3 that I've seen mentioned the most would be your local Curt dealer, local Uhaul or local Ford dealer.

I have the OEM hitch sitting In the garage.

'22 XL did not come with one so I ordered the part from Ford.

Dealer wants to charge 6 hours of labor at $100 an hour...so ya, not paying $600 to have it installed.

That's no wiring either, no harness, no tow pins, just replace the rear piece with the OEM tow hitch.

Some YouTube videos look like about an hour of work.

I'm too old to do myself, so the part just sits.

No more than I would ever need the hitch I could just rent something for the job. Not likely to ever be needed.

In a similar situation, one of my XLs has no hitch. I thought the OEM hitch was not so hard to install BUT I've not looked at all the videos yet. Roughly, how much did the OEM hitch cost?

I highly suggest going for the OEM hitch. It replaces the rear bumper crash bar and thus the hitch receiver is a lot higher up for better angle-of-departure, both for the truck and the ball mount/safety chains/wiring, or whatever rack or accessory you choose to use. Almost all aftermarket hitches are designed with ease of installation in mind, but the thing only needs to be installed one time.

Also the aftermarket wiring jobs are lackluster at best. They typically use Scotch-locks to splice into the factory taillight wiring for a 4-pin. For wiring that has to run to the engine compartment, I've seen jobs where it seemed like the installer just unrolled the wiring harness under the vehicle and barely zip-tied it to whatever was available. Never mind sleeving it with wire loom and securing it to the factory wiring harness.

I paid around $320 for the Ford OEM part.
Been over a year and half just sitting in garage.

I can't find my paper work right now but thought the factory installed hitch was $100 on 23 hybrid. What ever I paid included the built in wiring which also is connected to the warning system so I get alert when the trailer lights are correctly operating.
Go to the dealer as u indicated . Best choice on a new vehicle.
