Re: A comment in a Toyota piece about Stout vs Maverick

“One of the primary reasons for the Toyota Stout’s reintroduction is probable competition with the Ford Maverick. Ford’s Maverick is a new compact pickup vehicle. It was created to cater to younger Urban customers who seek a multi-purpose, fuel-efficient car capable of doing a wide range of jobs because the Maverick is smaller than standard pickup trucks.”

Umm…”cater to younger urban customers”? Ha! There’s a lot of seniors bagging em Mavericks!

Marketing. The Kia Soul was marketed like it was younger buyers that would be buying them. Guess who was actually buying them?
Auto marketing folks will never create promotional materials or ads featuring seniors -- at least not yet.

I don’t see why not, seniors are the ones that are more likely to be able to go buy one for cash. A lot of the old curmudgeons that post here paid cash for Their mavericks.

I don't think advertising works for seniors...I think they're gonna buy what they're gonna buy.

Also, seniors have no problem buying a vehicle advertised to younger buyers as long as it meets their needs. I do not think the inverse is true.

I don't think younger buyers would but a car marketed to seniors.

I think most people who don't have inferiority complexes buy the vehicle they need for the future they foresee.
We have our Maverick because we needed a pickup but not a full sized one. Period. There's something about advertising and a rodents back side that I cared about when we started looking. The Maverick will haul more weight and pull more load than I desire. But I can if needed.
And I get decent mileage too so it's a win.

At 71, I paid cash. Also don't pay much attention to advertising since the only commercials with people who look like me are drug commercials. Boring. Its a smart truck, easy to drive and very low key.Tall enough to slide in/out very easily and since I don't hear much anymore...quiet. I'd rather save my money than buy a $60,000 ego trip.

Was the same for Toyota's Scion brand. It was made and marketed for the kids, but the cars were small, practical and fuel efficient, so we're a big hit with the olds. Pretty sure Ford knows most of the market for the Maverick and is trying to bring in younger buyers after it cancelled all their cheaper sedan/hatch/suv options that might typically go to first time drivers buying their first car.

Young and dumb. That's the target market of every company.

Old and wise people don't spend money unnecessarily. I bought the Maverick to be my last truck ever and because it is a good, practical truck.

64 here, been paying cash for vehicles since I was in my 40,s. People don't realize if you can make a monthly payment, you can save up and pay cash for a vehicle. Pay yourself instead of the banks and credit unions!

Absolutely, I am 73 & had many trucks, but the Maverick is ideal for me as it is for many.

" Umm…”cater to younger urban customers”?

Didn't Ford say something like that in some of their introductory publicity?
