Just crossed the 10k mile mark and had this same SHIFT SYS FAULT happen. Blinking drive indicator on the dial and would turn on the parking break if I tried to shift from park. Then the car would go haywire with warnings and ultimately the SHIFT SYS FAULT would come on. Luckily was in my neighborhood at a friend’s house (was going to load some stuff for them) and not in the parking garage at work as the tow truck was huge. Tow guy managed to get the parking break off and keep it off by not shifting the transmission out of park. Definitely something related to the transmission, whether software or mechanicals is apparently anyone’s guess. Only other trouble I’ve had is erratic braking at low speed and a clunking sound occasionally with harsh braking, again at low speed. Took it into the dealership when it happened hoping they could run a diagnostic - they kept it 5 days, never worked on it, never gave me a loaner, so I took it back and just kept driving. Doesn’t happen much though and the service writer I talked to kept telling me it was just how hybrids are. Clearly, he’s never owned a Toyota hybrid - we’ve had two previously. I’ve also had now four Fords and frankly like them. I assumed the brake deal was just a software issue between the regenerative braking and real brakes and I had an appointment next week for the oil change and to have them look at the service bulletin about that. Crossing fingers for this though…
You definitely need a different service writer. That's insane what he told you. Hopefully you will have better luck than me, mine got worse every day. Then started every day and wouldn't reset for several hours. I sat at a gas station for about four hours the last time. As soon as it started I canceled the wrecker and took it straight to the dealership. October 30th and still waiting. They are suppose to pull the transmission this week I hope and check it out.

So…. Car is back in my driveway. They said the 23E09 recall update should fix the shift system malfunction. Said that should also fix my braking issue. The call from the service guy was comical after the fact but at the time was real irritating. So, I already had a planned appointment next week for an oil change, tire rotation, recall repair (the above update), and state inspection. All the guy said was something to effect, “we got all that stuff done.” That was it. I had to bring the guy back to the main issue and say, what about the system failure that made it unable to drive??? He was like, “what are you talking about?” Followed by, “oh that? yeah, the recall update should fix that.” Totally nonplus. They drove it to my house. Appreciated that part. So, now crossing fingers.

They said my transmission should have been here today but it didn't show, so they are expecting it before the end of the week. Hopefully get it back late next week.

Wow!, didn’t know firmware would fix a bad transmission 😂. When they took mine apart, it has debris like something got shredded up. Should get mine back later today or Friday for the second gremlins that showed up. So far I have not seen any errors on the ford pass app. They have put some miles on it and let it idle most of the day. Just a FYI , if you start having can-bus errors, go get the hybrid control module replaced( again).

Is that the same thing they first replaced on mine? They replaced the hybrid inverter, I think it may be different. They told me today that the transmission should arrive tomorrow or Monday at the latest. After 65 days of waiting I fill like a little kid at Christmas. Maybe Santa will bring me a ford maverick without shift system faults. 🤔

Got mine back today, knock on wood it’s working. The hybrid box was the culprit.

Well. It’s back and so far the breaking is definitely better and no more giant error messages. However, I had consistently gotten about 39mpg driving around town. I’m now down to 29mpg after the recall update. For the record, the only time I’ve come close to that low of mileage was highway driving for an extended period. The whole point of buying *this* truck was that I got function plus great gas mileage since 95% of what I do is commuting and errands around town or the kind of stuff I could have done with my old hybrid RAV4. If FMC just killed my gas mileage they have destroyed my purpose in owning this truck. I really hope this gets better.

Good luck. Mine is fine now. Put almost 2000 miles since I got it back and all good.

Update. All has been good for me so far after 23E09 update from a system fault perspective. The mileage is better than my initial concern though it’s still off. Basically, driving around town in normal drive mode I used to get worst 39. Now it’s 35. Where I used to be able to easily and consistently get 43-44mpg on eco I know fight to get 39-40mpg. Basically, it appears to have taken about 4mpg off my high end mileage and dropped the bottom by as much as 6-7mpg. It’s still good in the big picture but disappointing to lose something.

My 2022 hybrid is in the shop waiting on a new transmission. It went in with multiple shift system faults in late November and was in for a few days. After a page full of service notes and updates, I had it back for one month and happened repeatedly again. It’s been back at Currie Ford for about two weeks. They’ve been responsive and said the a new trans has been ordered and shipped for replacement. Hopefully I have a short wait and this will be the fix. I have about 15k miles so far.
