So I rarely do this, just occasionally when duck hunting and it's best not to have a fob in my pocket. Have never had a problem on my f150 but I did this on the Mav Lariat and the factory Keypad would simply not work at all. Finally had to call my son to Uber a key up. After getting in, I randomly tried the steps to fix the intelligent access entry lock and unlock feature and voila the keypad worked again. No idea why intelligent access would fix the keypad but it did. Isn't intelligent access the handle sensor? So thinking as I post, duh, the handle sensor needs to work in conjunction with the keypad.

Regardless, expensive lesson. Will never lock key in the truck and rely on Keypad.

My F150 don't have Intelligent Access so I'll still do it on that truck
I do a lot of kayaking. Always leave my key fob in a Faraday bag inside vehicle and use keypad but did have a door only key cut and have it tucked under the Mav just in case.

Yea. As I posted, my buddy drove to where there was cell service and I called using his phone.

Definitely going Old School and getting the magnetic box

Unlocking your door to get in it would be close range communication. I dont know my wife has it. I could care less about spyware. I've been on the internet since its beginnings. In 35 years I have yet to have an adverse affect from giving my information freely to strangers. Either way I will have to try it out sometime.

I have left my key in the truck since I got it 16 months ago, so I always lock the truck and unlock with the keypad. Lariat, and no problem so far. Seems like a very rare occurrence and it just happened to you............... I guess your buddy was hunting with you and had his cell phone in the event of an emergency out on a lake in Ontario in winter???? I believe I would consider putting my cell phone in a waterproof pouch and taking it with me out on the lake...... Double the chances of one cell phone working.

My Ford pass app started and unlocked the doors and hour away from my Maverick at my son's house. Was just curious of range, lol

maybe the old magnetic metal key box you plunk your key into and then attach to some underside metal would suffice next time...

This is the failsafe but it requires you to get a metal key, maybe out of the second fob you have. I always had the spare under the truck. Lots of times I just didn't have it on me and wanted in without having to go back in the house to get it. It has also saved me from locking the keys in when I am a loooonnnng way from home and Uber is not an option.

As the man said, remote location, with no cell, yes that does exist in this state of ours, and no way to get help when remote or stuck somewhere in the boon docks.

I have the keypad on the Lariat and have tested it plenty just cause I don't trust that technology like I do a physical key. I tested those too just in case I need to have that option available to me. Dead battery, but with a jump pack under the back seat.

RE: those saying just use FordPass: FordPass uses AT&T to talk to the truck. Your phone needs some sort of internet connection, and the truck needs to be reachable by AT&T cell network. I know that where I hunt, often times there is zero cell service.

The keypad on my Explorer died and I just quit using it. I was told it would have to be replaced if I wanted to use one again, but I can imagine the cost.

The way I remembered the code is I used a birthdate. Easy number to remember, and if someone needs to get in your car, just say it is so and so's birthday.

Use mine all the time when camping or canoeing. Have had the keypads on all my Fords for years and the only problem I ever had was a Ford stick on that the battery died in after about three years. I've never had a problem with a wired one that's used almost daily.

I‘m also frequent user of keypad for the 2 years I have owned XLT mav. I do variety of home improvement work and keep toolbags on backseat and I use the keypad several times a day to retrieve and return tools. Never had a problem and the convenience of this feature is one of my favorite of any vehichle I have owned over 30 years.

Somehow I agree with the spyware thing... Too invasive for me.
