I think it was a bonehead move on Ford to get rid of their most well-revered feature and now make it a $200 dealer-installed option. Sounds like corporate greed to me. And that's before labor. Factor that in and it'll probably be around $300 just for a keypad that was once standard from the factory, at least on the Lariat trim. I know it's not a big deal and it can be easily remedied by the dealer but I shouldn't have to do that. I love this feature on my '22 and I'm gonna hate having to add one from the dealer. Unless I gain some FordPass points to use towards it so it's not out of pocket, then it's no biggie at all. But still, c'mon Ford, you're known for that feature. You've been using it for the last 30 years plus. Don't get rid of it! Just thought I'd point this out and vent. Pointless overall but I'm sure others feel the same way.

I could have held off on my Tremor for a MY24 being built this week but wanted the keypad and wiper heater. Nope.

I may not do the keypad, really like when inside the door frame. The pad on the body goes back to when first developed.

Is the wiper heater an option at least? Thankfully I have a carport that is fully enclosed but there was a time when I didn't and it was basically an extra half hour worth of work in the morning lol. Sadly at that time I also did not have remote start 🥶

eh... most people don't care anyways. I can't even count how many people I see driving with an unsafe amount of snow/ice on their vehicles and less than a quarter sized peephole in the windshield. It's awful. I refuse to be one of them.

not even an option in 2024. After driving my Tremor my stepson has decided he needs my ordered 24 lol, loves the Carbonized Grey I ordered but wanted the heater.
His wife is driving a 2022 Badlands that I ordered and they deleted the wiper heater on it too. Funny thing they installed the heated windshield without the wiring so he just wired it up and programed it in. Now he hoping they make another mistake. Meanwhile he's poking fun about me not getting the SIBL and cargo rails now std on the 24

That is interesting.

Makes me wonder if a 3rd party cheaper keypad could be used and easily setup as well.

For the Maverick the factory pad is wired, well it was for MY22/MY23. The keypad you can option now is wireless battery operated. Not the same thing. Maverick that don't have the keypad don't have the wires, people with XLs checked.

I have to say, as much as the recalls on my 22 bug me, I'm glad I didn't pay more for less like people are getting now.

This.

I was really considering ordering a Tremor near the end of '24 but not anymore. Usually it's the other way around - as the model year progresses the features get added. Not removed. That's why I ended up getting the '22 Tacoma I had because it was towards the last year models and all the new features have been added that I was looking for. Also why I waited on the GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado because on those forums a lot of people are pointing out certain small things that will likely be added later on. I have no brand loyalty - only features for my money.

TBH, I had no idea the '22 Larait Maverick I had didn't even have GPS until I got in it. I almost walked but I'm glad I didn't wait. My '22 Escape had the more recent Sync and I was expecting the same thing from a more expensive loaded Maverick. Silly thinking...

It's not even just the wires. This was something I was hoping to do on my XL but as soon as I took delivery I knew it wouldn't work, the XLT and Lariat models up until 2024 actually use a different door from the XL. The XL door doesn't have a cutout in it for the keypad. I suspect that Ford got rid of the keypad to standardize the doors across the whole lineup and save money on production and procurement.

Most likely. They could have just given all trims the keypad too, that would have worked.

But don’t most people prefer using Apple or Google maps anyway?

Most people likely do in modern cars, GPS units built into vehicles suck, because you have to pay for map updates, which is stupid.
