I'm already wondering about how to mount my Alinco DR-735T. I think I'll eventually bring it somewhere and let the professional installers do the job right. I'll use it with a mag mount antenna until then, or just use an HT.

Has anyone experienced any interference to computer in truck.
I have a dual band Yaesu FT-90R
that I consider installing in my Maverick when I get it.

Awesome, but it boggles my mind that in this day and age, that blank computer screen behind your radio cant handle all the frequency duties of your radio and all others. With all the fancy connectivity these days they cant use handleseverall decades old technology..

Let me re-phrase my question.
RF interference to the computer module that controls everything from fuel mixture to engine functions for the truck if the computer module isn’t shielded from RF while transmitting.

Have not been active for a long time. Seen another post about Ham in the Mav. Poster had a Baofeng, like OP a brand I have not heard of. Looked it up 22 bucks. Bought one, got me back into it. When I get my Mav hope to hook it up. Thanks for posting.

I am in the progress of installing a Yaesu FT891, a FTM300DR and a RM Italy 300V HF amplifier in mine with a Tarheel 75A HF antenna on a quick disconnect and a flexible dual band antenna. Radios go under the rear seat with controls on the front of the console, external radio speakers just below the back window.

I'm still trying to just f igure out how to use my mobile HAM radios. I have the programming software, etc. Aced my Technician test (100%) and bought the study manual for General.

I don't know how to figure out the offsets, etc, and not even sure there's a tower within range of my 1 watt handhelds. I really got my Ham for my FPV drones (VTX transmitters are in the Amateur radio range), but my dad's been a Ham for longer than I've been alive (60+ years). So I grew up watching him talk to the International Space Station, bouncing RF around the world, ham fests, etc.

Between understanding the offsets, etc., plus figuring out the programming of your particular brand/model of radio, it is a struggle! And once you get it all programmed, you'll forget how to do it in a few months. It's extremely frustrating. I bought the CHIRP software and appropriate cables for my portables and that sure makes things easier, although it's still not foolproof.

I bought a feature-rich mobile UHF/VHF radio and I have to refer to the instruction manual almost every time I try to do something with it. I find that setting up an antenna and QRP rig in the back yard and contacting someone on another continent is easier than setting up a mobile dual band to chat with folks locally.

Anyway, stick with it. You'll probably be surprised how easily your low-power UHF/VHF can hit local repeaters.

I have an old Radio Shack HTX-252 2m rig in my Colorado, and if I transmit while the car stereo is on the RF fully factory resets the stereo so I lose all my presets...

Hopefully it won't do that to my Maverick when it arrives :)

I've not been super active in a while, but still enjoy monitoring the local 2 meter repeaters. Sold all my mobile rigs and now just carry HT's. I'm able to bluetooth my 2m/440 Wouxun and my Radioddity GMRS HT to my motorcycle helmet, which has been nice for the rides.

Going to have to figure out a couple mounts for the Maverick as soon as it comes in.

This might be a dirty word to some in this group, LOL, but I recently bought a HT President Randy CB. The skip is really rolling in. Picking up Florida on a little rubber ducky when the conditions are right.
