We just caught a new Ford Maverick variant, showing signs of the upcoming performance street truck trim widely expected to join the Maverick lineup.

Ford has trademarked the Maverick Lobo name, and it may point to this interesting new prototype, caught testing in Dearborn. The heavy front-end camo appears to hide a more aggressive front-fascia, with a lowered, muscled stance. The prototype is fitted with new, larger 19-inch wheels, mounted to 225/55R19 Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT tires, showing its new focus on street performance. 18-inch wheels and tires are currently the largest rollers available on the Maverick.

The prototype appears to have a single exhaust exiting from the left side of the rear bumper, and showcases the independent rear suspension setup of the AWD Maverick, which should enable proper traction if more power is on tap. It appears that there are visual signs of an intercooler in the front bumpers lower air-intake suggesting a more potent turbocharged powerplant.

very good breakdown of the spy photo's .
its always astonishing to me how much info can be gleaned from just a few pictures !!
this Lobo may really excite the Ecoboost crowd and if i was a performance orientated buyer i would be really happy about this variant of our beloved little truck. good on Ford for hooking up all the off road & performance folks. and i mean that sincerely,
but i am waiting for the MY 25 'refresh' , really hoping for a all wheel hybrid powertrain B4 i get all hot and bothered. after all i already own a '23 Lariat that grows on me more every day so can afford to be patient.

Anything is possible.. a 2.7/3.5 option can happen.
In 03 Ford offered a V8 conversion for the Ford Focus ZX3. It happened. There were magazine articles about it. I remember it was a blue Focus RS with the Mustang Cobra drive train.
Check it out.

I like the door handles. Fingers crossed for a 2.3 with a transmission upgrade. 5k towing, power boost inverter, and hybridized motor on AWD could talk us into poor financial decisions.

Gauge cluster on the A pillar? Fuel drain and switch in rear?
Yep she's a tanker alright. Luke Doolan is at it again.

I saw an ST the other day. It was lowered with nice wheels, Brembo brakes, Big Front mount intercooler, and a side exit exhaust. It even had 2.3 badges on it and sounded like it had a bigger turbo. I peeks inside and it had a digital speedometer and a flat bottom steering wheel. It even had a gauge pod suggesting it’s a high performance version. I took some pictures with my potato phone so hopefully you guys get an idea of what it looks like.

Love the idea of a street performance truck, since that's where most trucks spend most of their time. Definitely needs to be lower, this looks only slightly less jacked up than standard. Wheels look very cool, wouldn't mind a set of those. I would guess 2.3L based on the platform it shares, but size-wise, I have no doubt they could fit the 2.7L in there if they really wanted. The engine bay of my old Fusion Sport was absolutely stuffed with the 2.7L but they made it happen and it was a riot. In the even-lighter-weight maverick I can only imagine. Probably would need an RS badge at that point and a more robust transmission. Way more engineering than I see them putting in.

I could see a Tremor + ST =Raptor maverick in the future too.

My only gripe is the name. Ford seems to be laying the groundwork for "Lobo" as the street truck name/trim (for multiple models), when they should just be using the recognizable ST branding. It fits perfectly for this.

Lobo sounds so goofy to me. There's nothing powerful or substantial about it like "Raptor" or "Tremor" is. Needs more 'murica! I know it means "wolf" in spanish but my mind immediately thinks "Lobotomy" or maybe Los Lobos the band most famous for "La Bamba."

Not to mention the Mexican F-150 is already called "Lobo" there, so the street truck in Mexico will be Lobo Lobo? Sounds loco.

Can't wait to see it unwrapped. Fingers crossed for a good looking bumper to swap in the future.
