Hi this is my first vehicle, I'm new to the oilfields where it will get extreme -30C over winter.

Where do I plug in to an outlet overnight? I don't see anything under the hood. Do I need to connect the outlet i see on the bed to another outlet? Confused here, ty

I'm not in Canada.

But isn't it true all Canadian Mavericks come with an Engine Block heater that you plug in? This does not directly charge the battery, but heats the water that circulates when you start up.

The bed "socket" is to run SMALL devices. It's power output only.

Block heater, that was the word I was looking for. It seems it's under the hood tucked away somewhere.

I am not currently located in Canada.

However, it is a fact that all Canadian Ford Mavericks come equipped with an engine block heater that you can plug in. This device doesn't directly charge the battery but rather warms the water that circulates when you start the vehicle.

The bed "socket" is designed for operating small devices and provides power output exclusively.

anyone know where to look for the block heater plug?
I have a Canadian Mav Hybrid where I didn't pay extra for a block heater. Pretty sure it doesn't have one.

Now is my chance to ask a slightly related question, as I didn't want to start a new stream. I bought a small auto vacuum that runs off the cigarette lighter. DO I NEED TO START MY HYBRID MOTOR WHILE USING THE VACUUM? In the old days, with gasoline engines and generators/alternators, it was advisable to start the engine so as to not run down the battery. But, in this hybrid's case, when I start the motor, ONLY THE ELECTRIC MOTOR is running. WILL THIS ELECTRIC MOTOR CHARGE THE LITTLE 12-VOLT BATTERY WHILE THE VACUUM IS RUNNING? I anxiously await your response, and apologize to Lunapt for stealing his post.

If you are new to -30 temps, I would ask around and see how others prep their vehicles for that environment. Not sure the factory heater will be enough. I'm sure the veterans have many tricks to keep their vehicles running in that climate. You may even need to heat both batteries.

As far as the vacuum, the 12V starting battery runs the 12V outlet just as in any other vehicle. The hybrid battery wont help or hurt you running the vacuum. The hybrid battery only provides power to the wheels as needed.

TLDR: put it in Accessory or (preferably) start it when you're using the vacuum, just like your old gas car.

The 12V outlet is fed by the 12V battery (same lead acid battery as any gas-powered car has), which is very small. The computer will automatically shut off the outlets in a relatively short amount of time/when the voltage drops, if you leave the vehicle turned off. Not long enough to run a vacuum through the whole thing.

The 12V battery is recharged by the hybrid's high voltage battery when the vehicle is in Accessory or Run. So, you'll want to at least turn the key to Accessory while you use the vacuum. If you do leave it in Accessory, when the hybrid battery is low, it will nag you to turn it on so the engine can run.

If you turn the vehicle on (with READY indicated on the instrument cluster), the engine will cycle on and off as needed (just like when you're driving) to charge the hybrid battery and keep the engine warm.

Bless you, my son. Thanks.

Here is a good example I just posted in another thread.

180 watt device(s) plugged in:

Key off: 15 amps coming out of 12 volt battery and nothing coming out of Hybrid Battery

With key "on" to run:
1.1 amps coming out of Hybrid Battery, and nothing coming out of 12 volt battery. In fact, 1 amp going into the 12 volt battery (trickle charge).

The block heater is not standard. It is optional. I live in the Toronto area, not cold enough to need one. I'd say less than 1/2 the country lives in climates that would need one.

Yeah that changed with MY23. All MY22 Canadian Mavericks did come with it. I did not option it, it just came with it.

My, my23 came with the block heater as standard equipment.(Canada), It took me a bit to find the plug, with the rubber protective cap on, it blends in. Exactly where 'fossils' picture shows.
I plan on using mine this winter, for about 3 hrs before going out.
