That looks kinda what the Cybertruck should've looked like

If they can build it similar to the proposed design for $40k or so I might be interested. However even if they were serious about it, it's still 3-4 years away minimum, and supposedly in the $75k price range.

This is more of competitor to the Rivian. No one buying a Rivian is considering a Maverick.

So, yawn.

They can keep that one overseas. Not a fan of the wheelbase and short rear overhang proportions. Also that rear door window design looks to be a big blind spot.

If Toyota USA can bring a compact truck with design similarities of the Tacoma and Tundra for the North American market, and depending how my Maverick will hold up for the duration of the warranty period and beyond, I will take a serious look at one.

The Maverick fanboys will predictably hate this. Everyone else will line up around the block, clamoring to buy it at any price. Like they already do for the Tacoma. If Toyota doesn't build a BEV trucklet like this, somebody else surely will. GM was floating around a 2-door BEV trucklet a few months back. BEVs totally open up the design book for small trucks - which used to be hard because of CAFE wheelbase-derived perverse incentives.

I'd drop $40K to $50K on EPU in a heartbeat. If built in the NAFTA area, you can now get $7,500 of that back at purchase time - right out of the tax pockets of the ICE forever trolls, which is frosting on the cake. And no gasoline for life, and essentially zero ICE maintenance - yea, I'll pay more for that.
Lol...

$7500 credit and a $7500 rebate are two totally different things.

I can't get past the rhinoceros horn appearing hood line

The yoke is an absolute no for me.
There only appears to be one cup holder in front of the center console and the seats don't look very comfortable.
I thought the hood looked like a giant CLAM!

Its proposed rules, issued Friday, would let car dealers offer the EV tax break to consumers at the point of sale — regardless of their federal tax liability — starting Jan. 1, 2024.

What that means: All eligible EV buyers — and not just a subset of eligible, typically wealthier consumers — would get an upfront discount of up to $7,500 for new cars and $4,000 for used cars, experts said.
In reading the IRS proposal if the buyer applies tax credit to dealer he will have to reimburse IRS for any portion he is not eligible for... From the proposal:
Consumers may transfer the credit if they attest that they believe they are eligible, including that they fell below the applicable income thresholds in the prior year or expect to be below these thresholds in the year the vehicle is placed in service. Consumers will need to directly repay the full value of a transferred tax credit to the IRS when filing their taxes if they exceed the applicable modified adjusted gross income limitation.

Except starting in 2024 that's pretty much what it functions like as you can sign over the credit to the dealer and it's applied at time of sale (income limits notwithstanding).

This EV concept addresses many items discussed here:
— all electric
— crew cab with dimensions roughly equal to the Maverick
— a built in bed extender to reach 6 feet
— a cabin pass through with folding rear seat to reach 8 feet
— more spacious cabin dimensions (hopefully losing the yoke steering wheel if produced)

Maybe this should be posted in the Toyota forums?

This is NOT a REBATE.

If you are not qualified to receive the full $7,500 Tax Credit then you will be on the hook to the IRS to pay back the difference between what was applied on the purchase and what was your actually tax.

So if you are retired and owe $0 in Federal Tax you will still not get 1 cent of the tax credit.

If you told the dealer to take the $7,500 off at the sale you would have to pay back the $7,500 to the IRS.

I stand by my statement that the EV Tax Credit "Leaves out all retired workers and a vast majority of actual workers". It is really a subsidy for the well off.

Lol wtf is Toyota doing?

Just when you thought they couldn't one-up the ugly new Tundra, they do it with a Tacoma. Now this?

🤮
