I have been telling everyone I know that driving hybrid is a bit of an art. There are many ways to lose or, conversely, gain mileage. I had two C-Max regular hybrids before I got my first plug (PHEV). While I wish the Mav was a PHEV (I average 55 MPG with 80 city/20 hiway and 20 miles from the plug), the knowledge gained from driving two hybrids and a PHEV is amazing and I seem to be able to get close to 40 overall in my Mav hybrid (lux/co-pilot), but you have to be mindful of all the quirks. Just drove from Key West to Los Angeles (bunch of stops but 3200 miles from pickup in Miami to home in L.A. with two of us weight wise) and averaged just under 39, at mostly 75 MPH. It can be done.It doesn't go into electric coasting down a hill. That will allow the hvb to be charged. You have to be pressing on the pedal to go into electric.
