I'd drop $40K to $50K on EPU in a heartbeat. If built in the NAFTA area, you can now get $7,500 of that back at purchase time - right out of the tax pockets of the ICE forever trolls, which is frosting on the cake. And no gasoline for life, and essentially zero ICE maintenance - yea, I'll pay more for that.
The $7500 back is ONLY IF YOU OWE $7500 in Federal Tax.
If you owe $500 in Federal Tax that is all you get back.

That leaves out all retired workers and a vast majority of actual workers.

For me I will enjoy my Maverick XLT Hybrid for many many years without the waiting for these vaporware mystical concepts trucks that will cost way over what I will pay over the lifetime of my Maverick.

I also don't have to worry about "Range Anxiety" or plan long trips around where charge stations may or may not be.

Yeah because the rest of the country should pay for your EV via rebates and the gas tax you don’t pay to maintain the roads you drive on. I bet you like to go to friends’ houses and plug into their power too. Maybe scam a free charge at work every day while you’re at it.

I have nothing against the concept of EV’s, but I have a lot against our government tipping the playing field to push an agenda.
You mean like the interstate highways, going to the moon, rural electrification, developing air transportation, on-shoring semiconductor manufacturing ….

Policy and incentives are essential to ensure continued American technology leadership, there are plenty of past examples that result in the benefits you personally enjoy today. That also includes new technology jobs.

When it comes to battery and electric transportation technology, we are behind the Chinese in both technology and scale, so we must incentivize industry to catch up. Not doing so risks our leadership and security.

Its proposed rules, issued Friday, would let car dealers offer the EV tax break to consumers at the point of sale — regardless of their federal tax liability — starting Jan. 1, 2024.

What that means: All eligible EV buyers — and not just a subset of eligible, typically wealthier consumers — would get an upfront discount of up to $7,500 for new cars and $4,000 for used cars, experts said.

That is true today, but starting next January it becomes a point-of-sale discount, not a tax credit. And there are now income caps.

The changes were made in response to the very points you bring up.

The government already gives a ton of subsidies to the oil industry and has been for decades, while the oil industry rakes in record profits every year... And we still have to pay a gas tax? Things don't make sense imo. We are taxed too much.

Not a fan of all electric. Where do you charge it? I don't even want a plug-in hybrid - the hybrid Maverick is exactly what I wanted. Had mine less than a month and I'm loving it.

Which brings me to the bigger point for me: I finally have the Maverick parked in my driveway. That Toyota won't be available at any price for at least a couple years, right? Concept cars are interesting, but drive me crazy - show me what you're building and shipping NOW and what the actual sale price is, not what you may or may not deliver at some point in the future at an undetermined price.

Most people charge at home(and they do 95% of the time) on a level 2 charger ( I am getting 300 miles per charge for $7 ) Your utility company will most likely give you a 3 $300 to $500 check to buy one.
Then there is the Tesla Supercharger system, which will be opening up this next year to other EV manufacturing companies..Tesla has over 20,000 chargers and is installing more now. Then there is a slew of other EV charging companies out there, but not as efficient as the Tesla Chargers. EV's have built in systems to locate chargers..[/QUOTE]

That's great, if you park your truck in your garage. But what if you live in an apartment building (or any other situation without a garage)? What if you park a different car in your garage?

People promoting EVs seem to think everyone lives in suburbia. I think if you look at the raw numbers, more drivers do NOT live in a situation where an EV makes sense than DO. It's awesome for those in a situation where it works - but that's not all of us.

And that's an issue - a move of residence or even job might make your EV wildly impractical. A move isn't going to make most ICE or hybrid vehicles impractical.

As long as the "refueling" involves a process measured in multi-digit minutes, it's going to remain an issue. So much of this concern goes away if you could pull into charging station and charge your EV in 5-10 minutes. Any longer, though, and the whole thing falls apart for too many of us.

So if Toyota was introducing a new hybrid as a Maverick-killer, and it was available to order now with full MSRP details, I'd be interested in taking a look. Until then, I'll enjoy what I have and ignore the hype for vaporware. But if you're excited - great, be excited!

Toyota hasn't said whether the EPU will go into production.
CLICKBAIT CONCEPT ARTICLES AND THREAD.
You are Correct;;;; It's a Concept Vehicle...who knows if they will ever produce it....and then, usually concept vehicles get changed so much in production they are hardly recognizable...oy....

EPU? More like E-PU! I don't like the hood, where's the dash and half the steering wheel is missing.

But that's just my opinion.

I think it's super cool but we know how far out it would be for a production version and I'm in the minority about wanting an EV, a straight AWD hybrid like their RAV4 hybrid would be more than fine. No way this thing would compete with the Maverick in terms of price point though, probably at least 5k more to start.
