AARGH! 🏴‍☠️ ;)

I hear ya on the NO SERVICE mobile reception. Same issue in my rural location. Lotta places round here don't have wired internet or mobile service available. A lot of friends have to resort to $tarlink for internet & wi-fi calling over it. At least I do have 18mbps DSL, which works fine, except for the <1 mbps uploads. Neighbors down the road can't even get DSL.

When my truck arrives, I'ma get the remote start that OP posted.
Did anyone else read this as if they were a pirate?
Having never had a vehicle with remote start, I will decide what to do when I get it. My guess is that FOR ME the app will work just fine, but if I love my remote start and the app doesn't work, then this sounds like a great alternative.
For that reason, Thank you OP for enlightening us on this option

OK. The article you provided does not have scholarly references, and it makes huge assumptions. To say Nissan collects data on your sexual activity is far from true.

Fear Mongering causes IT issues that you may not understand, but what you posted has only biased data posted to make people worried about driving their car with no pants on. It is not fact, it is a biased opinion.

And, did you see any reference to Ford in that article?

I get the camping issue, but if I want to remote start my Maverick, I bet I will be inside, and could use my phone as easily as finding my key fob. I think it’s just personal preference, but I’ll try the free option before the pay option.
Yeah, most of the time I think about remote start, I'm outdoors. And when I'm outdoors, I'm likely in an area of no/poor reception and the app is useless.

I agree sensational sex statement seems out there. I am not trying to fear monger, there is little to protect consumers if ford or any of the other manufacturers want to collect data on there customers. I feel like Malwarebytes is pretty credible source since I have used their products to repair pc's for nearly 2 decades. The fact that the manufactures are collecting any telemetric data on me my driving habits seatbelt use number of passengers bothers me you can turn all that stuff off but in my testing you loose functionality of remote start at least from the smart speaker.

maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t think I am important enough for it to matter if they track me. Whenever people saying that the government is tracking me for whatever reason, or there are chips in my vaccination, I wonder how self absorbed are they to think that anyone actually wants to know all that information. If ford wants to know how many times I have driven without my pants on, good for them (the answer is 6, by the way). I am not going to be a fugitive of the law (unless it wasn’t me, it was the 1 armed man) so I don’t care if they know I went to the donut store before I went to dropped my son off at school and had to drive 62 in a 55 zone because the line was long and the lady had to go to the back to get my apple fritter.
Oh no, now you have all the information to figure out my passwords, AppleFritter62ina55.
log into my email address, [email protected] (yeah, I have my own website, I am a big deal).
and now you know that I am going to be a millionaire because I am related to a Nigerian prince and all I need to do is prepay my taxes for the government to release my money, that I have won several iPhone 15s, and that Ford regrets to inform me that due to supply constraints, I will not be getting a new Ford any time soon.
my life is SOOOO awesome that everyone wants to track me.

Yeah, the amount of WORK it is to keep track of people is pretty bonkers. HOWEVER, lots of data combined together could mess up someone's life if they're not careful.

I just use the Ford Pass app for free.
Doesn't work when you live in the boonies or it too hot or too cold. The key fob does though. I thought just like you until it didn't work for us.

I haven't lived in the boonies since I was 9. Long before cell phones!

Although I sometimes wish I did, I don't live in the boonies either. But I have been known to visit them.

I added it too since I didn't get the fob remote with the truck. Don't know if that was a Ford change or dealer screw up. Cheaper too at 100.

The app is great, but Ford could decide to stop supporting it or make it a subscription tomorrow. I've worked on cars long enough to see tech "upgrade" enough to render it useless someday too.
I already read an article that vehicle manufacturers are going to start charging a monthly fee to utilize your keyfob to remote start/unlock. Hey the airlines got away with charging for hold baggage when many said they wouldn't do that. They saw the millions the one airline that started this made in first year and all jumped on bandwagon. Now some even charge for your carry-on bag. Car manufacturers just see this as a billion dollar annual income, when I paid extra to get the keyfob capability!!
