Forscan and second battery for longer stops ?

Hi guys, recently I read the news that finally you can disable the auto stop and start with forscan.

On my case I'm on the opposite side, I would love to maximize it, my daily comutes are 80-90% of trafic jams red light to red light trafic, matter of fact I rode less than 4 2 hours ride on my truck since new (about a year), I like the auto start and stop a lot, my complaint is because the bms sometimes decide I have no power enough or the AC etc it doesn't shutdown the engine.

Could I install a 2nd battery, and with forscan help the system to shutdown more often and stay longer on that mode while I'm stranded on traffic?

Thanks a lot in advance to the forscan community , and congrats to those that finally have the option to have your truck your way by disabling those features that you don't like, while enabling those that you want like the TSR etc.

I know, I know. When my two cars decided to die in the middle of the pandemic none hybrid was available on my area, matter of fact hybrids just hit the area few months ago, but I was in a hurry so i got the EB, I freaking love the power of mine but would love the hybrid too.

So with the hybrid out of picture for now, there's anything that can be done for my 2.0 EB ?

With the way the system works having a second battery would be of no benefit since battery charge is only 1 of many factors in start/stop. interior temp and engine temp play a bigger part in start/stop than battery charge.

You would have to get a vented battery, and run a tube from the vent to outside, to have it in the passenger compartment. That's how the hybrid's 12v is setup, otherwise it would not be safe to have a 12v lead acid battery inside.

The other issue is the charging system is not designed to charge two batteries.

You need a dual battery isolator kit:

A 2nd battery would not help this issue. The Hybrid has an electric motor driven AC compressor. The EB has a ICE driven AC compressor.

Hi. I'm not looking to run the A.C, I know only the fan runs with the battery, I just want the engine to stay off for 2-3 minutes while I wait on the traffic lights and be ready once is my turn to go.

What actual benefit are you looking for here? Extended gas mileage?

I just want the engine off as much as possible, yes for better mileage, I also stay put for 1/2+ hour at the truck, so having the battery voltage at good levels would help me on the traffic lights too.

What you are proposing to going to only give you a very marginal improvement and probably not worth the hassle.
Maybe just turn the truck off if you are sitting long enough to make a difference

Direct injection engines are EXTREMELY efficient in an idle situation (also why they are able to start so quickly)

Probably more effective if you were to hypermile when moving vs having the engine off
