I got to thinking about how expensive the LED lighting is for the Maverick to replace, and I'm thinking why am I bothering to run LED daytime running lights on my 2022 hybrid? They're not required by law in my state, and they are expensive to replace.

To those who imply they save lives, I'm not buying it. I'm turning them off.
I am just here to add another vote for - lights are cheap, relative to any accident. I turn my headlights and taillights on every time I am in the car.

I can’t imagine being concerned about the potential cost of replacement and not using lights for that reason. To me it’s like saying “I don’t drive at night to save my headlights”.

Also, do whatever you want and I will do the same!
Cheers,

I've not yet had a home 120 VAC LED lamp last the full rating. Not a single one.
The key thought is "120 VAC". I'll bet every single one died because of the cheap power conversion circuits and not a LED failing.

Those DRL lights should last about 100 years. I think you are assuming that they will burn out like old incandescent bulbs. They don't, so leave them on.
Barring any defects I agree. LED should last upwards of 25,000 hrs at the bare minimum

Because a LED is solid state component its natural operation is ether on or off. Usually to dim them you use multiple LEDs and turn on more or less of them to give the dimming effect. I am sure there has been some changes since I did design work with them in the 70s. A great power saving device.

I am noticing more and more older vehicles with only one side of their DRLs working now.

Gee, why don’t they just pony up the 1-2K for replacements I wonder?

Why not turn them off if one stops working?

The DTRL on my 2017 Honda Accord only lasted 3 to 5 years. That's why before I bought one used I saw Honda extended the warranty on them for like 8 years. But I have a maverick now. So it doesn't matter anymore to me.

Or rapidly pulse them on and off which is how most LED arrays are driven at reduced power.

How weird is that? The LEDs will last longer than the truck. Talk about make work and OCD.

another argument for using them, in addition to safety, is that it might lower your insurance.

Politics has nothing to do with it. I just don't want to wear them out if I don't feel they're needed.
Also don't forget to take off your glasses when you are not looking at anything:geek:
