Well, it finally happened. Was on the interstate, quite far from the work van ahead of me, but a rock kicked up and smacked my windshield right near where the mirror mount is located. I didn't see the rock, but i heard it hit and it hit hard. I looked around and at first didn't see a crack, but saw one had formed above the top of the mirror to the passenger side. When I stopped and got a couple of photos and inspected it, it was about 3 inches from the point that it appeared to be hit. There wasn't a spiderweb or cateye, it was just a line going left to right with a pinpoint. I'm guessing if it were anywhere other than the mirror mount/roof console area, it may have glanced off but that area has structure behind it.

I have full comprehensive. So no deductible. But I have a Lariat and am leery of the windshield being replaced. I know I'm supposed to have a higher end windshield. That's better at noise dampening from the wind. The local shop that the Ford dealer recommended can replace it Friday.

Over the day or so since, the crack has spread considerably. About 8 inches to the driver side and in a up and down curve to the passenger side about another 8 inches farther that way. There also now is a crack going up from the driver side fracture to the edge where that crack started to curve.

Anyone get their Lariat windshield replaced yet? If so, was it the same window? Same quality? Same sound/road noise as before?

Just replaced mine last week, XL not Lariat. Safelight did the work with an OEM-E windshield, not sure what the E stands for, but it's different than oem.

I had insurance but if not, would've cost me $962.

yours may have the wiper heater as well. if you look close you'll see a fine line at the base that heats.

In Ohio, comprehensive claims don't raise your rates. I had a tree land on my car once and didn't pay a cent and my rates never rose.

I've dealt with Safelite several times and never had a bad experience. If your insurance company is Progressive they will send you to them anyway.
