Couple of reasons. I'm tired of using my Jeep as my daily. Don't get me wrong, I love it to pieces, but the insurance won't cover the amount of time and money into it for the JP conversion and screen accurate parts so driving it can get stressful at times. I wanted something that we can all fit in with the dog, get excellent gas mileage, and still have room to haul anything we may need. It will be nice to make a Home Depot run and not have to take the Excursion. I was originally looking at buying a used Flex, but this was announced and checked every box.

I order mine tonight.

2cafn8d, I am in the same boat. I have a 2009 Wrangler JKU with a 5.3 LS swap, it's a great Jeep and is a ton of fun offroad, but it's painful daily driving it. Plus being 12 years old and with the engine swap, it can be a little quirky sometimes. I had been looking at going electric but the infrastructure for charging isn't where I want it to be. When I hear about the Maverick it seemed like the best of both worlds, good gas mileage in a new car that should always just work when I need it to, and the utility of a small truck.

I actually have modified an old Hollywood Bike rack into my kayak rack. Just covered up the arms with foam tubing, and strap right too it. Works great.
I should be more specific. I'm thinking about a tandem kayak, 16'-17' in length.

I've been reading a bunch of posts today and very few folks have given any indication why they really ordered this truck. I've heard "suits me to a tee", "this truck was made for me", etc., etc. I live in Texas country and out here in the sticks I don't think the Maverick will do too well. Oil workers and farmers and ranchers are going with Rams and F150s because that is what they need. However, I believe places like Dallas and its suburbs will probably find good sales for the Maverick.

I'm wondering - specifically, why are you buying this particular truck? I'll begin. I'm in my '70s and have owned mid-size trucks of various sorts during my life. I loved my two Dodge Dakotas and I bought one of the very first Ridgelines to come off the line in 2005. Now that money is no longer a major consideration, I've been driving Mercedes vehicles and love them but decided they just were not practical for me now that I am older with different things going on in my life. I've taken up gardening so I need something to haul plants and mulch. In my current vehicle, lucky if I can get two bags of potting soil in the thing. I live on a golf course and play almost every day but I would love to get a few guys together now and then and go to other courses - just throw the bags in the back end and go. Again, lucky if I can get a 7 iron in the car I have now. It is a beast, fast and fun to drive but I think I'm getting past that stage now. I don't trailer anything and frankly, I really don't need a truck but my love of smaller trucks won out and I ordered a Lariat that was pretty well loaded. I have a new Mercedes ordered too and should arrive next month. Now I can say I have the best of both worlds.

So, why did you buy a Maverick and what do you plan on doing with it?
I am 64, have 'toys', i.e., 20' runabout, ATV, Enduro, etc. I have an 8' x 5' trailer that I tow with wife's Cherokee and she hates me using her car. I wanted a small truck to put my electric trap thrower (on a wagon) in the bed, and tow my trailer with my ATV and/or off-road Enduro. My current driver (and only owner) 2011 Cadillac SRX is ready to go to that 'Caddie noises you don't want to hear' repair time.

Why the Maverick - Seems like everyone is saying their age so I'm in my late 40s.
Below are my reasons:
  • Ford Bronco isn't out yet, so I will lease this for 3 years then get a Bronco
  • I've always wanted a truck but something smaller. Mid-sized backseats have always been too small, and this is actually bigger.
  • Bed size - I can easily carry my Radrover eBike in the back with gate closed and front wheel off
  • Kayaks - I plan to get one of those hitch kayak arm things so I can put my 11 foot fishing kayak in, or fold it high and up a canoe on the roof
  • Might add an ARB air locker, not sure if i will need it for basic offroading (as in, the off roading 90% of people do, easy trails)
  • Did I mention, the Ford Bronco isn't out yet
  • I have a utility trailer I like to pull, nothing too heavy. even take it to FL for camping or road trips
  • I plan to get a light weight Rv, something under 3k (remember Bronco maxes out at 3.5k). Yes, I know towing is iffy, but I used to have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler which towed 3.5k and I never had any issues towing a 3.2k camper trailer (always very stable - 500 mile or so road trips).
  • Tailgate or outdoor movie or concert-gate hanging out with lots of friends... this would work well
  • Parking easily intown (even easier than a Ford Ranger)
  • I think the Hyundai Santa Cruz is ugly even though it has cool headlights
  • I really hate the grill of this truck, but I'll be fine. I might get one of my kids to design a Maverick logo across the front like the Bronco letters.
That's about it. For me, I was leaning to the Ranger but when this came out I reserved immediately because it's perfect size.

The bottom line, is AWD for the 10 days a year it really snows/ice, worth the extra 4K for AWD? I could get winter/snow tires with a sweet set of rims for half that price, probably.
I've driven over half a million miles in just about every adverse weather condition possible in the western US. If you're driving on snow-covered or icy roads, I'd 100% take winter tires on a FWD than an AWD on All (No) Seasons.

If you're going off road, then AWD would be more beneficial.

The way I see it, I'm going to pay for it in the gas money I've been spending.
I had a 50-mile (one way) commute and always had, well, a commuter. You may want to do the math for your specific situation, but for me, the commuter was just to keep mileage off my other vehicles. It was never going to save me money unless the commuter was very cheap.

My last commuter got double the fuel economy that my truck does, so my fuel bill got chopped in half. I drove 25,000 miles a year, my truck got 18mpg and my commuter 36mpg. If gas is $4 a gallon, I save $3,500 a year. But, I paid $21,000 OTD for the commuter.

So I'd have to drive the commuter for 6 years to just break even, at which point it will have 150,000 miles. That's not accounting for the commuter's own registration/insurance/maintenance, which kicks the can further down the road.

I was in the market for a Prius or Corolla for the fuel mileage around this price range and when this was announced it was exactly what I was looking for. I rather drive this small truck then a car and have a few more options incase I need to haul something larger home or just have options when I take camping/hiking vacations.
I was very close to buying a brand new Toyota Camry LE Hybrid a few months ago. Only reason I didn't is because the salesperson never showed up.

I'm really glad I didn't buy the Camry after I watched the official announcement of the Maverick. If I still drove 25,000 miles a year, the Maverick hybrid FWD would cost just $817 more in gas per year than the Camry. And the Camry isn't rated to tow at all and can't carry a fridge or a recliner safely.

After the Camry incident, I decided to put the new car on the back burner for at least two years. But you bet I'll be watching the Maverick closely. I'm a lifelong Ford person. Had two F-150s, two F-250s, a Mustang, and a Focus through the years. Currently drive a Nissan Frontier because it was the logical choice at the time.

I'll hopefully replace the Frontier with a Maverick when the time comes. In no particular order:
  • Had trucks with 8' beds. I rarely hauled anything that needed an 8' bed. I am just fine with the Frontier's 5' bed.
  • Had tall trucks. One F-150 was lifted 7.5" and one F-250 was lifted 4". I guess I looked cool, but what isn't cool is when you have to climb in and out of the truck 50 times a day.
  • Had long trucks. One F-250 was the crew cab 8' bed. It towed like a beast, but it turned like a ship. Right turns in parking lots required some careful maneuvering.
  • All other new trucks are just too darn expensive, whereas a Maverick XLT Luxury Package is a bargain at barely over $26,000!
  • Don't want to park outside anymore. Unlike most people, I use my garage for parking cars in. Frontier fits fine with room to spare. The Maverick should let me easily walk around the vehicle. Maybe even drop the tailgate!
  • I'm not a big guy, but I think modern full-size trucks are designed for bigger people. I drove over a thousand miles in an '18 F-150 Lariat and another thousand in a '19 F-150 Platinum. I didn't find the seats particularly comfortable. For perspective, the most comfortable seats I've sat in to date are in the post-refresh 5th gen Explorers ('17 to '19). They fit me like a glove.
  • I think the Maverick is, in essence, today's iteration of the old flat fender Jeeps in a go-anywhere-do-anything sense. Not a whole lot of other vehicles can tow 2k, park in tight downtown parking garages, safely transport large and oversize household goods, get excellent fuel economy, and come reasonably-equipped for a low price.

I honestly hope this vehicle is a smash-hit, and at this point, I don't see why it wouldn't. It's purchase price and operating costs shouldn't be much more than a Civic or even a Prius, but you get a lot more utility for your money.

Can you suggest a good kayak hitch rack? I have the same need. Thank you so much!
I am currently looking at this https://yakima.com/products/longarm ... or something similar. It looks like it could be useful for hauling long lengths of lumber as well! I've been thinking about the various ways kayaks could be strapped in.. fwd facing over the cab.... backwards (strapped low near the cab with the tailgate up) or flat on the bed with a rack like this.
I currently doing this on a roof rack and J arms, but its awkward throwing them up there!

Same here. For me it's either the Yakima Longarm (like posted above - for all the same reasons), something cheap like MaxxHaul (but probably not), or something like Boonedox but it doesn't also fold up for Roof Rack options (canoe, ladder, whatever). End of the day, I will probably grab the Yakima. There's also cheaper versions at places like Northern Tool. I tend to avoid cheap, because they end up needing to be replaced too often. Just my opinion.

Lots of reasons the Maverick made sense to me: Sold my 2015 Explorer for more $ than I expected. With three other vehicles, I didn't need a replacement immediately so the wait time was not a problem. Maverick will fit in my garage with room to spare whereas a Ranger would crowd it. Maverick has adequate horsepower and tow capacity with the 2.0 turbo. Haven't had a pickup since my 1997 Ranger; have had 6 different SUV's in the interim; I like a pickup better when I need to haul mulch or lumber. Will avoid having to rent a utility trailer. Good MPG.

Have you had any issues hauling 8’ lumber with that five foot bed? Will be using the maverick as a daily driver, and for hauling mulch, drainage rock and other garden/landscape items, but I also do a lot of woodworking. Currently I cram lumber into the back of my Nissan Altima, wood comes all the way up to the windshield, not the best but I do manage to close the trunk.

Honestly im still at 75% sold for Maverick...

what I like:
- the estimated mpg (hoping it really is around 40 😲),
- that it is a truck (that is not too big 😁)
- that it will be a big upgrade from my current base model mitsubishi mirage hatchback (which has no safety features at all 🥲)
- the price (but get really scary when the add ons are selected to be honest because it shoots up fast 😂)

what holds me from reserving one:
- that i can only get the color red in first edition (i dont need the add ons for that 😞)
- im trying to find out if carplay is wireless (because the wireless charger for the phone is nonsense if it isnt 😏)
- if ford is a good car (im new in the states and most of my colleagues told me not to buy ford because of its motor and lemon issues 😕)

but still, i got interested since I saw an ad for Maverick in my suggested youtube videos. it was like love at first sight, that i watched all reviews that are out already and that is everyday. but, I dont want to gamble in love again without getting any in return for sure 😂

any inputs will be much appreciated 😁

I started reading this post and stopped and started and stopped and started and stopped and started and finished because of RL interference. I had to finish it because of the sheer number of emojis. 👍

First truck was in 1995, compact Chevy S-10. Owned it for about 10 years but it stayed in the family till 5 months ago. Drove cars ever since 2005 but missed not having a truck around to haul things around.
Son just purchased a 21 Ranger Lariat. Price was good at 32,600 but don't like the MPG since I drive a lot of miles. But I got the truck bug and as soon as I saw this Maverick with the high MPG, I knew it was for me. I will use it for my everyday drive and be nice to have the availability to use the bed for my general chores that a car cannot do.
