Some questions regarding the Hybrid vs Ecoboost

Hey all, new member here.
My name is mike and I'm a full time estimator for my glass shop I own. I spend 3-5 hours in the car each day and looking for a good daily and this seems to check most the boxes.
No towing, but need a bed for the casual hauling needs. Plus, it will be doubling as a mountain bike hauler.

Been on car forums for almost 20 years now and I've really enjoyed the forums, being a car guy. I've met some good people along the way...

I've looked for some good pro's and cons regarding the Eco vs Hybrid and didn't really find what I was looking for.
I am pretty certain I will be purchasing a new Maverick for my daily in the next couple weeks (month or so) and letting go my 2020 Colorado RST.

will hopefully test drive the two for comparisons sake, but I've been on this site for a couple hours now and there is some really good feedback in the different threads I've viewed

Questions and opinions I'm looking for, along with a couple comments....

Handling:
-what are some of the differences in handling between the two drivelines?
-how well does it handle (realizing this is a very subjective question)
-I want it to handle well, and will most likely be lowering it with the Eibach kit (I've done that to my '11 Carrera C2S), my Colorado (and it sucked cause the leafs were a flip kit and the ride quality was not good) and other vehicles....
-hows the steering feel?

Performance:
-is the hybrid really that much slower than the Ecoboost? There are times "I'm running behind" lol...
-are the real world published numbers accurate? they seem to be from what I've read...

This may not answer many questions but I have the 2023 Lariat eco w/4K tow. I got the eco because my other car is a Mach e GTPE so I am good around town. I got the 4K tow not so much for towing but for the other stuff that comes with it like HD Radiator, trans cooler and other things. It’s still new to me as I drive the Mach e 90 percent of the time but took it to Panama City Beach last week for a week and was very impressed by how it handled on the road and the comfort of the trip. It did everything I wanted it to do.

Thanx everybody for your input. I'm now leaning towards the EB, I love performance. And thats the 60,000$ question (was it 60?).....

Have the performance of the EB and sacrifice a lil mileage OR have the mileage and sacrifice and lil performance.

Well, as some of you can see in my avatar, I'm kinda into performance. OTOH, I drive alot during the day. Mixed between freeway and city, about 50/50....My foots not "in it" all the time, just from time to time.....

I like the looks, I like the fact that it has four doors (I wanted the longer bed of my Colorado but have found in the four years of ownership, I do need a truck but I do not need an 80" bed)....and looking forward to critiquing the handling as well.

I had a full size Silverado for a whopping 6 weeks in '19 that I was in a bad accident in, and my rental was a F150 Platinum EcoBoost and it was nice and rode nice....Wanted something smaller (much)

Oh, I think I'll be happy with the Bang Olufsen Sound system too....

Funny, this will be my fourth compact Ford, I've three Rangers before, when they were considered compact. Unfortunately we just lost one in an accident in December (an 07 I bought for my estimation and ended up giving it to my son who hit black ice and went into a barrier, he's ok but the truck didn't make it...)

Hi Mike and welcome to the community, proud '23 Lariat Hybrid owner here. got it in late April of '23, around 2500mi on it so far. i hope you do get your Mav soon and love it as much as i love mine.
long story short, if the Ecoboost if 4x4 AWD is important enough to you go with that. otherwise i'd be suprised if the Hybrid version didnt meet or exceed your expectations, i think the hybrids are that good.
so far my "real world' mpg (about 42mpg overall) has exceeded EPA & Ford estimates as confirmed on this site and others.
i was lucky enough to get mine after a short 3 wks search by buying an abandoned order off the lot at MSRP, thats something i would advise you to pursue if you want a Mav sooner rather than later. it didnt have everything i would have ordered but im still happy to have it, especially when i see how LOOONG some folks have waited and are still waiting for theirs to this day.

the answer to Hybrid Vs Eco is it all depends... "i spend 3-5 hrs in the car each day" just screams hybrid rather than ecoboost to me. and if u do lower it i have zero advice for you on how that will affect vehicle handling, as i have never done this to any vehicle of mine. but there are many threads here on that kind of stuff.

i'd much rather say 'i dont know' than post some B.S. on this site.

as far as color is concerned it up to you how important that is to you, only you can answer that. i REALLY wanted a sunroof but even though mine doesnt have one i still love it. i do have a '24 order in that has the roof by the way.

handling characteristics between the two versions is somewhat different due mainly to the rear axle configuration between the ICE 4x4 version & the Hybrid 4x2 version. from what i've seen people post here and on other sites.

dig into the different forum threads on hybrid vs ecoboost (there are a lot of them) and you will find a wealth of opinions & even some good info as well. i have only ever driven driven a hybrid Mav so i cant comment intelligently on the diff between the 2 power trains other than what i've read. the consensus would seem to be that a lot of folks believe ICE 4x4 handles the 'best' while the 4x2 is just fine for everyday driving around town. i personally have no complaints.

performance is a loaded word... if you're asking if the hybrid or the ecoboost version has more 'get up & go' you may be pleasantly surprised with how well the hybrid responds to your throttle inputs. floor it and it will take off for you. no its not a Mustang but it can get you wherever you need to go in a hurry if thats what you're looking for. the electric drive motor combined with the ICE (internal combustion engine) supplies almost instant torque off the line and very pleasing oomph when you want/need it at highway speeds. again, i have yet to drive a ecoboost Mav so i might not be your best source, but i'm VERY satisfied with the hybrid powertrain so far. and when you factor in the >40 combined Hway/City mpg it becomes a no brainer for me. i have no doubt that the Hybrid Mav would be a good fit for your usage needs.

one bonus of a hybrid U may appreciate is that when in park or accessory mode most everything is powered by the 'electric' battery. the ICE will cycle on and off only as necessary to maintain the charge on the electric battery, saving you a LOT of gas while just sitting there on the phone or filling out paperwork.

no it probably wont handle as well as your other vehicles but, its a very attractive package considering the price tag and the great functionality you get with a Mav, and the bed is VERY handy and customizable. you will be pleasantly surprised i think at how much stuff you can fit into the bed.
steering is very predictable and has just the right 'weight' for me. my big beef with steering is the Ford Co-Pilot 360 lane assist system. until i got used to it i wondered often what the hell i was running over when all the time it was the alert system trying to help me out. thankfully the intensity of this warning is operator adjustable.

cons: this is NOT a high end luxury vehicle, it has a very well thought out and creative interior layout IMHO but this is most definitely not going to compete very well when it comes to materials. a lot of plastic here, but it seems to work
bed size is smaller than most trucks have. but i believe for most folks who dont intend to use the Mav as a hard core hauler or work truck will find its very adequate for most folks.

the suspension in the hybrid is terrible compared to EB. This is from my personal experience

I've spent time in both and prefer the the more comfortable and quieter ride of the hybrid. If I wanted great handling I wouldn't be driving a truck.

I've learned to avoid direct injection engines which are notoriously dirty. The first thing most owners do with their EB's is install a catch can. No such problems with the clean burning hybrid.

doing some shopping over the next couple weeks, and if the right color pops up within 500 miles of me I'll probably pull the trigger sooner than later....

I'd like to buy local (Bay Area) but the ADM's are banana's. I get it though, when times weren't so good for the dealers, us consumers beat the snot out of em....the term "payback" comes to mind lol

Hi Mike. I own a hybrid and I can only give you my experiences with this model. The mileage I get is great. I've traveled from Massachusetts to New Jersey and back and I've gotten 44 miles to the gallon. I have no problem with performance or speed. Each Ford Maverick has various driving modes that you can select, eco for economy, sport for strength and power, normal for every day use and slippery and towing. I use eco and normal. I have the Lariat model with many extras that I love. I also use the vehicle for light bed loading and every day use. It is a small truck and so far I've had no issues with it. The only issue you may have is ordering a hybrid. I'm aware that there are still issues with the supply chain but it's getting better. If you are going to use this vehicle for casual driving and not for serious construction then in my opinion I recommend the hybrid. Good luck.

I know some folks refer to the Maverick as a small truck but coming from a 1996 Chevy S-10 it seems quite large. Parked next to my son's Chrysler minivan they look to be about the same length.

I was driving a hybrid and now I have an Ecoboost. Handling is about the same but the ride is slightly better (maybe) now. Different wheels, tires, suspension (4k tow). A bit more powerful. AWD will be nice in the snow.

The hybrid wasn't much different. Snappier low end from the traction motor. Smoother powertrain. Less brake usage from the regen, I liked the way it slowed when I let off the gas. Less overall power but less fuel cost.

Both are great but I prefer the hybrid. If you're "running behind " the hybrid won't get you there any later unless you're really racing like crazy.

I've had smaller trucks but with longer beds. Just have to get creative with the Maverick.
