i suppose it is better than nothing and it ha saved my but a few times . i paid extra for a system that is not that reliable.

One day it is perfect, the next day it wanders back and forth. Scares the hell out of my wife. She thinks we're going into the ditch and lets out a yelp. A couple of times of that and I just turn it off and drive it myself.

I have the same experience with Lane Keep Assist. It seems very random when it kicks in. I keep it activated at all times and have the the settings at highest sensitivity but it rarely activates even when I think it should have. But then every once it awhile it kicks in when you don’t expect it.

That's Lane Centering on the Lariat Lux, and I love mine!

Different than lane keep assist.
It can be installed on ANY trim/engine.

Costs less than $1000

There are several factors that come into play:

LANE KEEPING SYSTEM
LIMITATIONS
The lane keeping system only operates
when the vehicle speed is greater than
40 mph (64 km/h).
The system works when the camera can
detect at least one lane marking.
The lane keeping system may not correctly
operate in any of the following conditions:
• The lane keeping system does not
detect at least one lane marking.
• You switch the turn signal on.
• You apply direct steering, accelerate
fast or brake hard.
• The vehicle speed is less than 40 mph
(64 km/h).
• The anti-lock brake, stability control or
traction control system activates.
• The lane is too narrow.
• Something is obscuring the camera or
it is unable to detect the lane markings
due to environment, traffic or vehicle
conditions.
The lane keeping system may not correct
lane positioning in any of the following
conditions:
• High winds.
• Uneven road surfaces.
• Heavy or uneven loads.
• Incorrect tire pressure.

Thanks for this 101 factual answer 👍. I absolutely think it’s well worth the $$.

I have used it and it works great. I've even figured out when it turns off (mainly when the lines are hard to read) but it will reengage as soon as it gets some good lines again. The adaptive cruise will stay on.

A note: with the ACC, you have to tell it to actually keep you in the lane. Go into the settings and make sure the assist is set to on and then you can adjust the sensitivity. I have found the middle setting to be sufficient. Only rarely will the truck actually fight me and that is normally when passing semis as I tend to prefer to hug the right side of the lane.

Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Centering are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT systems that work completely different from each other.

Lane Centering is part of the Adaptive Cruise Control package, and it pro-actively works to keep the vehicle centered in the middle of the visible lane markers. If the lane markers are clearly visible, it works quite well. Note that ACC must be installed AND turned on for Lane Centering to work. If ACC is OFF, you revert back to Lane Keeping Assist. Lane Keeping can also be turned off (and back on) with the button on the left-hand stalk. If the front-facing camera cannot properly determine the lane boundaries, the system turns off (temporarily) and you get both audible (beep) and visible (red flashing indicator in the dash display) that it has been disabled. In that situation, the LC indicator in the dash also turns white/gray (versus green when it's engaged). When the lane markings become clear again, Lane Centering will turn itself back on.

Lane Keeping Assist is more like an impaired driver - a driver that doesn't notice they are drifting out of their lane until the last minute, and then over-corrects in the opposite direction, only to find themselves drifting out of the other side of the lane, and over-corrects the opposite way... (My sister has ADD, and is a terrible driver. Lane Keeping Assist does a better job of keeping you in your lane than she does, but only barely...) Obviously, Lane Keeping Assist is better than my mythical impaired driver, but it is designed not so much to steer the car for you, but to correct when an inattentive driver starts drifting out of their lane.

Lane Keeping Assist doesn't do much for you under normal circumstances. It's basically a 'fail-safe' for when you might otherwise inadvertently drift out of your lane. In that capacity, it does the job, but just "OK"... Lane Centering, on the other hand, is really nice when you're in a situation where Adaptive Cruise Control is also beneficial. For me, I find it most useful on road trips, or when driving on the freeway where the lane markers are clear and obvious.

Both are useless (disabled by design) when you're on a narrow country road with only center markings (no edge stripes), or when the paint lines are faded to obscurity. Both can also become confused when there are dark strips of tar (el-cheapo pavement patches) along the road.

Reading that long disclaimer list on how it works, I think, for me, it will not work well on gravel roads. :ROFLMAO:
