Ceramic IR tinting and toll road transponders

Hey! Looking in to ceramic IR tinting but I was told it blocks the transponder signals to toll road stations.. the only thing I can think of is either.. using a transponder sticker underneath the tint (still have to ask the detail guy his thoughts about this) or mounting an external transponder.. the ones I've seen screw in to the front license plate holder.. there's no requirement for front license plates where I live and I don't want to drill holes in an otherwise brandy new front fascia just for that.. anyone have success hiding the transponder inside the bumper?

Just an FYI ....
I used to think the same thing until I got the following from Georgia State Road and Toll Authority:

"Your Peach Pass transponder has not been registering to your account.

We have used the license plate associated with your account to identify the following transactions and paid them through your Peach Pass account number: ########.
If this issue is not immediately resolved, an additional fee will be charged for each manual license plate reading."

Transponder was present but located in lower left corner of windshield (near VIN) vs. center top.
It was also a little beat from the car being in sun year-round.


OP -check with your state toll authority on the subject to make sure you don't get a surprise.
I didn't realize GA had plate readers that required human intervention. /s

The Easy-Pass in my neck of the wood does plate reading/charges with additional fees, but not without issues. If the transponder mounted behind the rear-view mirror, as instructed, the license plate could be stolen. My front license plate had been stolen and the thief had racked up more than hundred bucks of tolls in the NY Metropolitan area, prior to realizing that it's missing. Easy-Pass was no help, other than sending me pictures of small pickup crossing the bridges in question.

I had to file a police report of the stolen license plate, sent a copy to Easy-Pass to stop charging my account. In addition, I also had to get new license plates, on my dime too, Connecticut does not replace stolen ones. Since then, the transponder is removed from the windshield, it's in the glove-box in a static bag and check my license plates for existence rather frequently.

Make the long story short, license plate reading/charging created another petty crime that nobody cares to resolve, other the registered owner.

I believe in Florida as long as you have an account the transponder or license has an equal fee. If you do not have an account they read the plate send you the toll fee with an adminstrative charge.

Is the Ceramic IR tint different than regular ceramic tint? I have ceramic all around my car including on the windshield and never have a problem with my toll transponder. I leave mine in the dashboard cubby behind the screen.

In Illinois after 5 in a row they charge you cash rate.

If you have a transponder sticker on your windshield just below the rearview mirror and want to add any kind of ceramic tint to your windshield, just have the tech cut out a notch around the transponder. If you are adding the transponder after the tint has already been applied, just cut out a notch for it. Doesn't seem to be much of a problem???

Since the event of my stolen license plate, my transponder rests in the glove box and placed on the dashboard, when I drive on toll roads.

With the license plate readers being wide spread nowadays, there's no reason to place the transponder on the windshield. Doing so will entice the petty thieves, who browse through shopping centers parking lots to steal the license plate.

Have to check your specs on your film. Carbon Ceramic may only block 70% of IR and ceramic IR will block 95%or more IR and will cost about 25% more.

Truck is literally at the tint shop now getting Ceramic Pro brand put on the front 2 + visor. I asked and they brought me over to the marketing sign on the wall that specifically said Zero interference.

It will probably be quite some time before I have a chance to make a conclusion here, but I do use a FL Sunpass passive transponder with suction cups. They have my plates on record as well, so maybe I'll just throw it in the glove box and call it a day.

Visor= top 5" of windshield? If so don't block cameras view you may have to have dealer adjust it's sensitivity.
