I am on my fourth Ford now since 2018. A 2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost, 2017 Ford Fusion Sport 2.7 EcoBoost, 2022 F250 7.3 godzilla, and now the 2023 Maverick Hybrid.

All 4 of these Fords have lied to me!

Guarantee you that YOUR ford is lying to you as well!

Maybe one out of every 20 tanks of gas driven out of my Fords, was the ACTUAL MPG somewhat the same or even more rare... Better.... Than what the little display was telling me I got. Typically I am getting at least 1-2 mpg less than displayed, sometimes I am getting more like 4-5 mpg less than displayed.

I get it... Everyone likes to brag on things they have or choices they have made. I have been telling my friends I am getting 45 MPG with My Maverick... But reality is I haven't. I have been through 3 tanks of gas in it and each time the actual MPG has been lower than the display.

As for Ecoboost vs Hybrid for the maverick... It is true, if you are on the highway mostly, there isn't a huge MPG difference between the two engine choices. Assuming you don't need AWD, then the two engine choices will come down to Hybrid gives you much better city MPG and longer powertrain warranty, where as the EcoBoost gives you a more traditional driving experience and more performance at the cost of city MPG. It is that simple. You COULD throw in resale value into the mix, as it is most likely that the hybrid will have a better resale value over the EcoBoost so as long as gas prices remain high.

Either engine choice is a good choice. There isn't a winner or a loser here. It really comes down to what do you prioritize.

The CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, has concluded that he wants more Hybrids, and fewer BEVs. The Ford BEVs are stacking up on dealer lots.

"In the call with analysts following the results, Ford’s Chief Executive Jim Farley talked up hybrids as a possible way that Ford could stand out amid increasing EV competition."

Maybe today, but Ford waffles on priorities. Just recently, they were touting becoming a challenge to Tesla with the Blue Oval City: https://corporate.ford.com/operations/blue-oval-city.html

I have one on order that is supposed to be built at the end of August that was ordered last year, but in the meantime an ecoboost fwd xlt became available. I have no need for 2 so I'm leaning towards keeping the one I got, I am getting over 550 miles per tank of gas and getting close to the 600 club

My vote is for which one provides me daily reliability. Hybrid lost that one for me.

Both are much more fuel efficient than anything else with a bed. Ford should focus on reliability.

Agree. On camping road trips with a moderate load, I'm getting 35-38 on the highway. About the same as the Eco boost I'd imagine. It's only very good mileage because I'm hypermiling. I would do well with both the eco boost and hybrid.

p.s. - I've seen the Hybrid average as low as 27.5 mpg in extreme weather highway conditions. My trips are 150-200 miles one way.
We've done a handful of camping trips in our hybrid the last year, but we're 2 miles from the mouth of the canyon so these aren't long highway trips. As we live in the mountains of Utah, the mileage isn't fantastic going up with the whole family in the cab and a bed full of your gear, but then you go down on the way back. A few times we've gone up the canyon for hikes we've done 10+ miles down without kicking the ICE engine on at all. Also our favorite mountain biking trails and reservoir (for paddleboarding) are just a few miles away, and similarly we can cruise back down without kicking the engine on.

I've turned it into a game, seeing how I can kick it into electric mode. For instance, my in-laws live ~30 miles away and we're there almost every other weekend. It's 2 miles on the highway and then the rest of the way is rolling hills on 40-45 mph streets and it's a bit uphill the way there. On-board computer says we're usually 45-55mpg on the way there and 65-80mpg on the way back.

I get that I'm the weirdo who turns fuel efficiency into a game, but I'm not going 10 under the speed limit or trailing semi-trucks. If our use case was similar to OPs, definitely would not be getting the same efficiency - you get the best tool for the job.

I am happy to see the ecoboost getting great mileage.

With my hybrid this spring and summer - and last spring and summer - I am getting 50+ MPG on my 32 mile commute.

During the colder months it averages 44 mpg.

As far as recalls with the hybrid - nothing to worry about. Should not dissuade anyone from going the hybrid route.
That's pretty good. As far as recalls, I'm not too worried. I skipped the first year, and getting a late build 23, (It's almost a 24). I feel most of the early bugs should be worked out by now. It could still have a recall, but none of my 8 new Fords have ever been recalled. So, i guess I am due if it does happen!

Isn't that like asking who NEEDS a Maverick. Answer no body.

It gets down to wants.

When you say "hot summer trip" are you referring to the temperature outside? Cause it looks like 75 degrees

When you say "hot summer trip" are you referring to the temperature on the screen? I'm seeing 75 degrees...........it's somewhere around 102 where I am here in central Texas. That 75 would be so wonderful about now. have fun with your truck

I put 300K miles on a Ranger and this is so true. It was a 2.5 4cyl with the stick and it was dog slow but never needed anything.
Rangers are excellent. I still have a 99 Ranger with less than 100k miles on it. The paint is TERRIBLE (flaking off) but mechanically it’s super dependable.

That’s when I arrived. It was 97and 90% humidity when I left, the last hour it rained and the sun went down, so it cooled off a lot. I live in Chicago, it’s been hot all week.

That's what I'm getting on my hybrid between St. Louis and Chicago each weekend at 80 mph, but then 45 mpg in the city. But that is impressive and I would not have had to wait 16 months!

I had no issues for 6 years and 150K with my '17 Fusion Hybrid, but they don't make it anymore so this Maverick arrived at the right time.

The back and forth on merits of hybrid vs eco can go on all day but if you have to have AWD the discussion is over!

This is about my 20th Ford plus the hundreds I’ve rented. It was a fun post and yes both engines are great. One blows up or shuts off more, but that’s a different day. Of course the cluster isn’t accurate, that’s been true since the 80s, buts it’s the reference we all use. Actual pump was 35mpg. I track all miles and fuel used since it’s business use.

25K miles a year almost all highway loaded with tools and equipment in Chicago weather. The hybrid wasn’t going to cut it and the wait time unacceptable, plus the added risk of major downtime. Just ordered an AWD to go with it since sometimes the FWD is a bit challenged loaded down when it’s snowing or raining. I am leaning towards the hybrid for personal use if they can work the kinks out and actually build them.

I am on my fourth Ford now since 2018. A 2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost, 2017 Ford Fusion Sport 2.7 EcoBoost, 2022 F250 7.3 godzilla, and now the 2023 Maverick Hybrid.

Drive my Commute. You won't crack 18 mpg. That is where the hybrid shines. Stop and go city, easily double the EB MPG.

Wow, mine was a 98. It ran great but was rusting away. Only major repairs were a clutch and brake lines.

Rangers are excellent. I still have a 99 Ranger with less than 100k miles on it. The paint is TERRIBLE (flaking off) but mechanically it’s super dependable.
