Now that we know the owner of the truck is ok, can we get a photo of all 4 of the rims to see if there are any scratches on them...and possibly a purchase price. I would like a set of them for my XL.
Yep, i don't see a wreck I see a source of parts!

Curious what parts you think are salvageable
Probably nothing good but you never know!

ETA engine block, transmission, transfer case, differentials, wheels, hubs, dash components, cabin switches, Stuff big and tough or so little it wouldn't break.

Everyone keeps mentioning the wheels. But I think the most highly prized item would be these knobs:

Great karma. Instead of looking for another Maverick I would buy a bigger truck.:)
While under the circumstances stated, it's doubtful if the bigger truck would've fared better, but I get your point.

The Maverick isn't really a truck with its unibody, my DMV registered it as an SUV and can't really argue about that. My former truck had been an F150, body on frame, and certainly had been much stronger built than the Maverick.

It is certainly discouraging to see all the totaled Mavericks in accidents, glad to see that people are OK, most of them crumbled like aluminum foil. That's an overstatement I know, but mine doesn't strike me being even close structurally to my old truck. Once the unibody gets bent/twisted, they have no choice but total it.

With that stated, I knew what I was getting into and perfectly fine with the Maverick for what I need it for. I actually like the comfort and all of the chachkies, but it doesn't even come close to driving the old F150. There was more power and the engine sound had been great in the old truck. Again, I am glad I got the Maverick, especially pulling in to a gas station...;)

that really is spectacularly bad advice to stay in a disabled vehicle that presumably is in the middle of the road and can't be moved. you should get out of the vehicle and far enough to the road side so that you're out of the way if someone does hit it or swerves to the right to avoid it. if it was a freeway there could be limited places to go, especially on an elevated roadway.

plenty of people get hit waiting on help for a disabled vehicle, so you definitely don't stand near it or stay in it. as to what's far enough away to be safe, it's situational, but let's just say definitely not on the shoulder or next to the vehicle if you can help it.

Driver was not in the truck when the big truck slammed into it.

Crazy for sure. Taken from Reddit. We for sure need a RIP section.

His story:

After the initial impact I called 911 and they told me to stay in the vehicle. I could feel other cars and trucks barely missing me as I sat there and occasionally could see them swerve last second.
The airbag had already deployed and when I took my seatbelt off I couldn't get it back on. At that point I just kept feeling like I was playing with fire inside the truck. The dust clouds were coming in waves and as soon as I could tell it was safe I got out and went to the side of the road. I was probably sitting in the truck for 3 or 4 minutes by that point.
Maybe a minute or 2 from exiting the truck to the semi hitting it when another dust wave came in. I was about 10 feet from the truck and couldn't see it only hear it get hit.

Wow.... that's the worst smash I've seen on a Maverick... Better touch up the scratched paint so it doesn't rust.

That will buff out right?.....RIGHT????
it normally would have been, but he had tricoat paint. It will need a full paint job.

What I'm wondering is why didn't the pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking work on the initial impact?
I'm skeptical about it.

Having seen a couple of times where I thought it should have gotten involved, I slowly approached my plastic trash bin (a mile or two per hour), and took my foot off the petal. It happily ran into it.

We used-to drive through a notorious foggy area, so Dad would remind us that when he suddenly drove off the highway, it was to avoid getting into a pile-up.
a, uhh, couple of years ago (nah, it couldn't be nearly four decades!) I was driving up 101 (or was it 5?) through California farm country, and the fog very suddenly got worse (you wouldn't think it had a well defined edge, but . . .). I dropped speed in time to pick up slow or non-moving lights ahead of me, and changed lanes, and avoided becoming the fourth or so car.

The next morning at my parents place, the newspaper reported a hundred car pileup!

And as for the effect of a larger vehicle--a larger truck would also have been totaled, but would have had that much more to crumple before getting to the occupants!

A front impact on the F150 above the frame would cause about the same damage. For the rear impact, the full frame on the F150 would maybe have not folded up as much, passing much higher g-forces on to the people inside. In this type of accident, a full frame truck is a death trap. You'd have a snapped neck or back and the truck would still be totalled.
