Who needs a hybrid anyways?!

Why would someone buy a Ecoboost and put it in economy mode to save fuel?

Why would I not drive in the mode most suited for the trip? Which mode do you believe would have provided a better experience under the conditions? Wrong answers only.

In 1991 I purchased a chev Caprice (aka taxi, police car, v8 dressed out for retail. But when I bought brake shoes and pads had to order ones for Cadillac to get right size. Dang thing got 12-13 mpg in town and on highway 26-39 mpg. In cruise trans would disengage and ice would drop to slow or fast idle depending on what was needed. If going downhill on a long slope it was necessary to shift out of overdrive into drive so Ice could help keep cruise speed. It took a little getting used to as there could be a couple seconds for ice to rev up before engaging. I was told they only made that setup for a year or two because of people complaining that there trans was slipping. There's no telling what mpg it would have done with Regen braking or even with a two speed axle. Or 8 speed trans.

Another boat from GM that got good mileage was the first generation of FWD Bonnevilles. We had 2 1991s would see many tanks in a row at 28-30 mpg. Town and highway mixed.

i dont think thats all that many miles, i put almost 600 mi on my 23 mav hybrid that i bought 26 april 2023. as of today 28 july i have 1921 mi on it. i dont think 147mi this soon is excessive, most folks that buy a new car/truck tend to want to go play with their new toy. see where the mileage is in 12 months or so.

That was supposed to be a funny After trading in my 18 month old ‘22 Maverick with 27,981 miles I’m enjoying the low mileage before I leave on my 454 mile OW trip next week!

Pretty big difference between 31 and 37 though. Putting it Eco just makes it easier to maintain constant speed on the highway since no cruise control. I have ordered cruise control but not installed yet. Maybe this weekend.

West Chicago driving is pretty optimal for driving compared to my 1.3 Mile commute with 9 turns, 7 stop signs, 1 stop light and potential train delay and top speed limit of 35 on the route. I have about the hardest short commute you can come up with. Vehicles love those 40-50mph steady speeds common in your area.

Yea, my work commute is stop and go but done with an EV. Occasionally I use the Maverick and it definitely like the highway better.

Love my ' 23 hybrid. No recalls and only issues are the bed is a little short and the back seat fills up with stuff. And I forget which side the filler is on because I so rarely stop at the gas station

Yeah but Ford says my Tremor can only get 24 mpg on the highway. Thats a bigger difference and I feel for ya but my XLTremor came with cruise, on or offroad. Im still super stoked. Ford did get the 24 mpg figure right though in one way. Over 4500, including 90mph south west driving, idling for hours sleeping in the vehicle in 105 temps at 4 am, offroading at 11,000ft elevation for half a day, and offorading for 2 days rock crawling in Moab. Driving for a whole day over 115 and up to 120 degrees at 90 mph. I still had a total trip average of 24 mpg!

That’s awesome. I just order another XL but with AWD and 4K, which will have cruise. It does better and much faster than our city van and it’s droning CVT.

23 hybrid xlt, arrived end of May, I have ~ 3600 miles so far.
I used to spend $100+ a week on gas.
Now I put $20-25 in the tank every week or so. Not really worth filling up the tank. I don't even really think about buying gas anymore.
Most of my driving is City.

Fantastic, easy choice. I’m an leaning towards the hybrid for personal use but really could use AWD.

My focus hasn't been mileage, as either one gets great mileage as compared to the Chevy S-10 I replaced. It was a simple decision for me.

Hybrid: Flat-towable behind RV, but can't tow more than 2000 lbs.
EB: Can't flat-tow behind RV, but can tow 4,000 lbs.

Simple choice, depending on which ability is more important to YOU.

This thread reminds me so much of a scene from a Monty Python movie, where the father of the groom laments "let's not get all caught up in who killed who"... or something to that effect.

The fact is that the EcoBoost is a terrifically fuel efficient small truck, that rides like an SUV. The only competition out there is (drum roll) the Maverick Hybrid. I have some of both - and I think they are modern marvels of automotive engineering. They have all been absolutely flawless. Yes there is an open recall for side airbags, which I will ignore.

Yes, the Hybrid gets even more amazing fuel economy. The EcoBoost also runs like a scalded cat. And you can't take that away from me.

Can't we all just learn to get along?

No doubt, I have many miles with both and enjoy them both for their bandwidth. The blowing engines apart or hybrid shutting down I don’t care for either.

I look forward to filling up every 3 months instead of each month. Of course, we will be filling up more on our couple of road trips each year.
