My very first new car was a very affordable Shelby. :D

My buddy had the same car, but the non-turbo version, he was in the Marines overseas, he sent me the specs on what he wanted, I ordered it for him & he picked it up when he got back to the states. The only thing he forgot to tell me was blue with silver accents or silver with blue accents, I picked blue with silver accents & he was very happy I did.

Could even sell it as a package for $25k and it would still be a bargain performance vehicle. You pack that power in AWD under 4000lbs and it will be mythical like Evos were in the millennium.
Shelby could never sell that for $25K with a different engine. $29K Gets you just some appearance and handling tweaks on a Mustang GT. Supercharger is extra cost. 2023 Shelby GT

Can we stop abusing the Shelby name? Such great cars in the past and present, at least the name should have a V8 under the hood.

2 things. Shelby was definitely a fan of lighter weight vehicles and he definitely enjoyed developing 4 cylinder turbo cars. If they put the AWD platform on a serious diet to get it under 3500lbs and got power over 350, it would be a real Shelby.

Only in his retirement years and at a real low point in American automotive history, the 80’s. He would not have been the success he was without the mighty Ford V8 engines, AC and FOMOCO.
Save the name for the GT350 and GT500, don’t make him spin in his grave.

Don’t forget about the fake AC Cobras he tried to pass off in his later years. The crew even aged the frames to coincide with the ā€œmissingā€ serial numbers. I think they claimed that they had found about 50 that they had just ā€œforgotten aboutā€ in some warehouse.

O’l Shelby claimed ignorance about the whole thing.

I lost a lot of respect for him after that.
The media buried that story pretty good.

Hey anything to get his motor running! Let me just say a Shelby Maverick(which is a name from the 70s) on a compact chassis with lightweight, formidable power, and AWD make atleast 300% more sense than a Shelby F250. Even the GT500 is a bit of a porker at 4200+ lbs. Just saying a guy who put V8s into feather weight sports cars would enjoy a compact turbo truck that could claw around a corner with all 4 tires.

There was never a Shelby Maverick, the first Grabbers had 6’s under the hood. It was just a stripe package. It eventually got a 200 hp 302, better but no match for say a 340 Dart or Duster or a Nova SS.
I’m not arguing about the concept, it would be awesome, just give it a different name, RS, GT, Piranha, Lightning, etc.
An FX4 is no feather at 3700 lbs, only 500 lbs less than the porky 🐷 GT500.

In late 1967 early 1968 my older brother went to Joe Myers Ford in Houston ,Texas and bought a blue 1968 Shelby GT 500KR 428 super cobra jet single 4-barrel with a 4 speed power disc brakes and power steering and he paid $5,300 dollars and he financed it through Ford Credit. I was in the 10th grade of high school and he would let me drive it every once in a while and man that was a blast.
