Sold...Maverick XL Hybrid

After comparing the SC and our needs to our Maverick, we decided to sell the XL and Carvana picked it up today and gave us a check for $32,870.00 which we were pleased with and based upon the 19 months we waited for the Mav we figured we got $450.00 a month for every month we waited after we deducted our cost to buy and their check. Hated to see it go but we had 5 vehicles sitting in our driveway for just the wife and myself.. One is our Motorhome for vacationing. One was our Jeep for doing work down at the farm. One was our Crosstrek for scooting around the countryside and one was our small pickup for trips to Lowes, filling our gas cans, hauling garbage to the dump etc....so that left the Maverick...which would have to replace one of those vehicles...and the only one it could replace was the SC....and wife loves the SC....not going to happen and from my perspective of all of them the Maverick was the only one we could actually make a fair amount of money on....so we sold it and it had absolutely no recalls even though it was built May 5 this year. Gotta sell a few Maverick accessories next.

Considering not keeping my Maverick if it ever gets built. Looks like Carvana is a good option. Have been very unhappy seeing so many issues with this vehicle. I need reliable transportation. SC been issue free??

Don't let the negative experiences scare you. There are plenty of us who have trouble-free, no recall Mavericks.

The smart thing is to get your truck and see if there are any issues that cause you trouble. You can always sell it later if you are still scared.

But Hyundais seem to have a LOT of recalls for all sorts of things. I spent a day at the Mazda-Hyundai dealer getting a recall done on our Miata about 10 days ago, and saw/heard the customers with all the recall issues, Hyundai having to extend warranty periods for failing parts, scheduling repairs out 2 months later to allow time to get parts, etc. If I ever was planning on considering a Hyundai, that day convinced me not to.

Last time I looked the Maverick had 6 recalls and numerous TSB's since 2022. Most of the recalls have been significant. From leaking gas tanks, side airbags, and two for potential engine fires and engine machining issues for engine failures along with child seat retainers that didn't the child seats.

Some of the recalls may have been fixed before mine was made. The 2 I've been made aware of was the one where they drilled holes in a plate to prevent engine fire and the side airbag replacement. I haven't been notified of any others.

Even so, I wouldn't say 6 recalls for a 1st year model is too bad. Does anyone know what the average recalls for 1st year models is?

You might want to check since there is another engine fire recall on the Hybrid for most years on the model with exceptions. Sounds like another engine /trans issue that may spill hot oil and cause the fire as the one they reportedly fixed earlier on another recall. Ford said they wouldn't have a fix on that one until sometime in the fourth quarter.

I disagree. I know nobody on the Hybrid that hasn't had a recall or TSB. The Hyundai Santa Cruz has had significantly less on both. As it stands to my knowledge the Maverick has had 6 major recalls and the Santa Cruz four. The timeline to get parts replacements or service has not been stellar in either case. The latest recall by Ford won't be addressed until the fourth quarter for potential engine fires.

The issues with the Maverick are not just recalls...TSB's should also be evaluated...not sure how credible these lists are but according to Car Complaints.Com the following numbers for those are:
Maverick 2023: 13 TSB's and 2022: 97 TSB's. Those do not include Recalls. The Santa Cruz 2022: 29 TSB's and 2023: 10 TSB's..

Here's one. My 2023 was built on 1/12/23, delivered 3/8/23, and has had ZERO recalls and zero issues of any sort.

Fortunately I had the same since mine was built in early May and delivered a week later somehow missed the latest fire recall as well. You also appear to have missed the trailer tow wiring fiasco and the software calibration update and I missed that one as well but I was thinking it's still early 2023.

I think the trailer wiring was only on trucks with the 7-pin connector...NOT any hybrids, in other words, since we can't get any 4k towing package.

No problems or complaints to report at all. If I want to find something, it would be that my gorgeous Alto Blue does show dirt and I need to wash it a lot more than my white or red cars.

Not sure how much is due to being a Lariat, but the truck is quiet, smooth and easy to drive., in the city or at 80+ mph. The B&O radio is just fine for my old ears.

I think a lot of the whines about grabby brakes come from folks who have never had regenerative brakes before. They are a little different. The first time I test-drove a C-Max in 2016, I would have called them grabby...but after 7 years with them, I am well used to the differences driving with or without regen brakes.

We also thought the SC rode better and handled better than the Maverick but again that could be personal taste although Edmunds review pretty much reported the same opinion on the ride and handling. Soe folks think that is why the Maverick is more truck like and the SC more like an SUV IMHO

I never considered the SC, because I was after a flat-towable hybrid...like my C-Max...only with a pickup bed. There was no other choice for me (other requirement was under 4,000 lbs towing weight and a Ranger would be a lot more weight).

I expected a lot more wind noise and was very pleasantly surprised when I got my Lariat. The only real reasons I chose the Lariat were the push-button start, heated seats and steering wheel, and no orange stuff. I ended up with the nicer windshield accidentally.

With the Private Offer and X-Plan, my loaded 2023 Lariat would have been less than the sticker price of my 2017 C-Max Titanium until I added BAP. So the Maverick is 6 years newer, has more safety stuff, can tow a little and has a pickup bed for $32,561. Not a $19.995 vehicle, but still a hella good deal to me. The C-Max was $30,985 in 2017.

I have a set of Bronco Sport Big Bend with OEM TPM's attached along with sets of both Bronco and Ford center caps. ( takeoffs after 10 mile useage) Also I have one bed cubby with the two extra screws needed for installation ( still boxed and never used). I have new never mounted set of Nokian Outpost ATP all terrain tires that come with a 65,000 warranty, pot hole warranty, aramid sidewalls , 3 Peak certified manufactured in the 4th quarter 2021 and garage kept. I also have a new box of OEM Maverick Hybrid all weather floor mats.

I dont know why I am not getting all notifications....I could have purchased your cubby........I am sure your wheel and tire combo is too rich for me.....but you have probably already sold them
